  • Starting the Year the Write Way

    Funded Jul 5, 2019

My students and I can't thank you enough for supporting our classroom. Thanks to your donation, each of my students received a supply box with pencils, a large glue stick, and an eraser. They couldn't stop gushing about how cute their boxes were, and they were elated to find out they were theirs to keep.

We have stored the extra supplies in an area that is accessible to students so they can replenish them if they use them or lose them, so there are less interruptions throughout our day. We also have an abundant supply of paper, which comes in very handy since my students need copies for writing, science, and social studies.

    Once again, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diaz

  • Goodbye, Kindergarten, Hello First Grade, Part 2

    Funded May 12, 2019

In just a few days, my former students will embark on a new journey in first grade. Thanks to your generosity, their supply list was reduced drastically, alleviating some of the financial burden many of our families feel when back-to-school shopping. Students and parents were extremely grateful when they found out they would not have to worry about getting half of the supplies their next teacher requested!

My colleague has already carefully organized the scissors, pencils, crayons, glue, notebooks, and folders so they are readily available for students next week.

Once again, thank you for caring for our students as much as we do!”

  • The Very Hungry Kindergartners

    Funded May 23, 2019

My students enjoyed learning about butterflies so much! When we received the caterpillars, they were wee little things that had to be observed using magnifying glasses to really get a good look. Over the next couple of days, we watched them munch, munch, munch, much like the Very Hungry Caterpillar, until they grew into big caterpillars that barely fit in their cups!

My students excitedly watched as the caterpillars hung on the lid of their cup in the shape of a j, only to disappear into their chrysalis soon after. They anxiously checked our habitat every morning, wondering if their "baby" had finally been born. Once butterflies began to emerge, I couldn't get them to sit down! They all watched in awe as these beautiful creatures practiced their flying every so often, wondering which one was theirs.

This project sparked their curiosity on another level, leading them to ask questions such as: Are the butterflies bleeding?, Why didn't all of the caterpillars form a chrysalis?, Why didn't all the butterflies emerge?, What will happen once we release them? Although we weren't able to release them together due to the weather (and today being our last day of school), my students and I enjoyed learning about butterflies and being able to watch them grow together. Once again, thank you for making this possible!”

  • Goodbye, Kindergarten! Hello, First Grade!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

I wanted to wait until the last day of school to give my students their new backpacks, so I repeated several times that they would not need to bring a backpack today. When I started passing out papers, my students looked puzzled and one even asked me, "Where should I put these? You said not to bring a backpack". Imagine their surprise when I started brining out backpacks with Frozen, Minecraft, L.O.L. surprise, Tsum Tsum, and other familiar characters and let them know they would each pick their favorite! Their parents were equally excited and extremely grateful for the wonderful gift my students received thanks to your generosity.

Words cannot explain how much I appreciate your support and the fact that you care about my students as much as I do. Once again, thank you!”

  • Pint-Sized Scientists

    Funded Mar 19, 2019

My students have thoroughly enjoyed the engineering process; as soon as we finished the day's lesson, they would ask if we were going to continue working on our trash collectors the next day. Although it took several days of work, I was highly impressed by their creativity and persistence. Some students were so excited about their first tool that they went back and created more!

I love seeing how engaged they are in their learning and how methodical they can be with a bit of guidance. Thank you once again for allowing my students to look at science through a different lens! They can't wait for our next engineering adventure!”

  • New School Year Calls for New Supplies

    Funded Aug 29, 2018

Have you ever heard of the monster that lives in the dryer and makes one (or more) socks vanish into thin air almost every time you do laundry? That monster has now moved to kindergarten and makes crayons, pencils, and glue disappear. However, thanks to your generosity, I am now able to replenish those supplies for my students when they go missing. My students received fun pencil cases, which they loved and several people have complimented on their first day of school. Inside their pencil cases they store their pencils, dry erase markers, erasers (for pencil and for dry erase markers), crayons, glue, and scissors.

The tap lights and batteries have helped us practice using different voice levels through the day; each light gets turned on after we discuss what voice level we will use during that activity. Finally, our color-coding stickers have helped keep our library organized, since we use the stickers as a reminder of what bin they should be placed in. Without your support, my students might not have access to all the essential resources they need to be successful in school. Thank you!”

  • Kindergarten: Keen on Clean

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting our project. Kindergarten is full of laughter, chatter, giggles, and smiles, but it is also full of coughs, sneezes, spills, and accidents. Allow me to give you a glimpse of the "dirty" side of kindergarten: when my students have syrup with their pancakes and there is a spill, we are able to clean up quickly without leaving a trace of our sticky adversary.

Now that the weather has changed and students get the sniffles, they quickly go to one of two areas where they can find tissue. We also wipe down our tables with disinfecting wipes religiously to avoid the spread of germs and make sure to use hand sanitizer before having our snack.

Unfortunately, students have hurt themselves during class, but having a Band-Aid to put on a bleeding finger or knee usually works like magic. Furthermore, when students have had accidents in the classroom we have been able to take care of it quickly thanks to the sets of uniforms we have available. All of this would not have worked out seamlessly had it not been for your help. Once again, thank you!”

  • 4, 3, 2...Can We Count on You?

    Funded May 17, 2018

Keeping kindergarten students engaged during small-group time can be challenging. However, thanks to your help, my students look forward to this part of their math block! They have not used all of the games we received yet since we have not covered concepts such as measurement, weight, or ten-frames, but they are so happy to know that there are games that correlate with what they will be learning for them to explore in the near future.

Thanks to your generous donations, I am able to see my kindergarten students learn through play, which is developmentally appropriate, but sadly seen less and less due to high demands. Once again, thank you!”

  • Here's the Buzz: Kindergarten Wants to Save the Bees

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Our school was all "abuzz" when we learned we would sound embark upon a new adventure—beekeeping. It was fascinating to see how hardworking and meticulous these little creatures are. They spent the entire summer pollinating our garden and making lots of honeycomb (and baby bees).

We have learned a lot along the way and although our experience has not been entirely how we expected (sadly, something happened to our colony and wasps started invading), we are excited to try again next year with more background knowledge on how to tend to our bees. Without your support, we wouldn't have learned so much about the little critters that are essential to our being. Thank you once again for helping kindergarten save the bees!”

  • Supplies for Success Part 2

    Funded May 6, 2018

Thank you so much for helping me get much-needed school supplies in the hands of each of my students. My students and their parents were surprised and extremely grateful for their new gifts. They excitedly went through their backpacks and took out their new crayons, scissors, glue, pencils, notebooks, paper and Post-Its to show their family and friends that had come to celebrate their last day of kindergarten with them. The happiness that irradiated the faces of my students and their families is truly indescribable and it would not have been possible without your support.

    Once again, thank you!”
