These resources will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. Additionally, they are non-fiction and high interest. As a social studies teacher, I believe it is vital that students are learning about current events, and by implementing Junior Scholastic and Scholastic News articles in my classroom I will be able to do that. My goal is to make reading fun and enjoyable for my students. With these resources, I hope to foster that love of reading. These resources will be used to get students more comfortable reading nonfictional and informational texts (commonly seen on the ELA state exam) - thus, they will help my students prepare for the State Exam without bogging them down in traditional "Test Prep." I will be able to use these resources to help students build skills such as: summarizing, main idea, vocabulary, context clues, mood, tone, text features, etc.
