  • STEM Designers

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Your generosity made our dream possible. Thank you so much for allowing our project to come to life.

We are officially STEM designers. The materials that we received from the project helped create various designs for our classroom. There were many disasters, but through it all we are learning more about bringing to life a creation.

We also learned that sometimes, the printed project doesn't always come out like we envisioned in our minds like some of the bags decoration for the 90% club celebration. Using past failures is helping us be better designers and see that STEM is in everything.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nakou

  • Hydrated and Ready to Play!

    Funded May 5, 2020

Words will never be sufficient for us to express our gratitude for your generous donation. Of course, the stampede when the resources arrived at practice was to be expected. We were all extremely overjoyed knowing that the goodies will fill our most crucial needs.

Keeping with the current health requirement, we are able to socially distance ourselves by keeping our individually packed bottle of Gatorade and Propel instead of gathering around the giant cooler.

Thank you for keeping us fully hydrated and ready to play.”

  • Drive-by Awards Day

    Funded Aug 7, 2020

Words can not express our gratitude. I joyfully, masked and gloved, prepared and delivered goodies for my students' Drive By Awards Day. There isn't any more rewarding feeling than that. I am certain that Santa Claus has the same feeling when he goes around to deliver presents.

The students were extremely happy to receive these unexpected presents. A colorful card attached to the bag provided the special touch needed.

In the midst of a worldwide pandemic and socioeconomic unrest, these students stayed focus and continued to learn. Thanks to your generous donation, they were able to experience an amazing Awards Day.

    Thank you again.”

  • Hearing, Learning From Home.

    Funded Jul 3, 2020

"Can you hear me?" is the common catchphrase in my students' vocabulary once they put their headphones on. Beyond the jokes, the headphones have made a huge difference in the way that we learn.

Learning from home, the huge issue that we were facing was the noise around and the difficulty at times for students to be able to focus on the Zoom or Google calls. Now that we have headphones, they put them on and they are able to hear clearly.

Thanks to your generous donations, we are able to continue on this journey of Distance Learning one lesson at a time.”

  • Secure My Financial Learning

    Funded May 5, 2020

Thank you for your generosity and your support of our classroom. Words simply can not express my gratitude and that of my students.

The iPad from a previous order helped engage our students in discovering more about the exciting world of finances and it has been an incredible journey.

These new resources offer protection for the iPad as well as provide opportunities to extend the use of the iPad. We can now use and manipulate the iPad to supplement our learning in various ways

    Thank you for your generosity.”

  • Financially Able Classroom Store 2

    Funded May 5, 2020

Please accept our most heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation to our classroom. This particular project expanded beyond the materials that the students were able to purchase at the store.

The excitement is palpable in the classroom as the students lined up to make their purchases at the end of the week brandishing their "dollars". This sparked discussions about earnings and about equity. Students that were absent part of the week complained that they didn't get an opportunity to earn money that day and questioned the process.

I am looking forward to extending this activity as long as possible as it is more than any words or textbooks I can share about Financial Literacy.”

  • Fueled for Playing

    Funded May 5, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Usually, it is a fight to run to the main office to be the one to come down with our DonorsChoose deliveries. However, as we've been confined to our homes, only I enjoyed that part of the fun.

Students received some surprise delivery to their mailboxes and at their doors. I think that was even more impactful than being able to open up the deliveries in the classroom.

Thanks to your giving heart, my students and I are fueled up, ready to start the new year.”

    With gratitude,

  • Creative Expressions, Financially Yours

    Funded Mar 8, 2020

It's unbelievable the things that students will come up with once you give free rein to their imagination. The Cameo Silhouette allowed our classroom to make designs for almost everything. Our best work so far was the label for our classroom binders.

Even though many of our designs were flops we really enjoyed the learning process. With practice, we are close to unveiling our masterpiece.

Thanks to your generous donation, teaching became more visually interesting. Handouts turned into adventures.”

  • La Vie Keeps Me Dry!

    Funded Mar 12, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students are so in tune with Donorschoose that they look forward to boxes delivered to our classrooms. As always, they are impatient to open the boxes and unveil the surprise that lies within. The girls were excited to see that it was pads and they boys went all red in the face and walked away. ( I will have to write a project with the boys specifically in mind)

It provides an intense feeling of joy to be able to pass out pads to our young ladies especially those that are in need of our help. I love the simplicity of the process. Since our classroom is now established as the supply zone for feminine needs, the girls just call out to me and simply ask. There is no questions asked, no explanation needed and we all love that.

And it is all thanks to you our generous donors.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nakou

  • No Longer Struggling, Journals to the Rescue!

    Funded Mar 9, 2020

Our goal is to increase proficiency. Having students that can communicate in French is a dream for me. Issuing the notebooks to the students felt like being Santa Claus and passing out presents.

My students are able to keep all their notes in one place. They are able to keep their handout in one spot. When it is time to study, they have one centralized location for all available and necessary resources. The notebooks are helping my students take ownership of their learning.

Thanks to your generous donation, we are one step further in reaching proficiency.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nakou

This classroom project was brought to life by Perry and Donna Golkin Family Foundation and 4 other donors.
I am having the most amazing time of my life in the classroom teaching and learning. Yes, most of my students have no interest in taking a second language as they are still struggling with their first language. Yes, most of my students come from a background that didn't prepare them for a traditional classroom where the teacher teach and the students learn. But what they lack in academic readiness, they make up for in attitude. It is my mission to build that attitude into grit and move my students from a proficiency level to another one. In between the 2 proficiency levels, our class is exploring using financial literacy, SEL, jumping, laughter. We are building, creating, researching, speaking, listening, reading, writing and growing. We can only develop into a better version of who we are today by the time we finish our journey and we owe it all to you our donors.
