  • Girls Running to Fitness 3

    Funded Nov 23, 2020

With your donation, we are able to increase the number of girls that are participating in our program. My girls are running and walking and training. The girls started by moving around the house and even while on Zoom with their daily virtual classes.

Then, they started using a running app and training together as a group. So even though they are not on the same field, they are all doing the same thing at the same time. They are tracking their miles and staying fit and growing more in compassion and kindness.

And this is all thanks to you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nakou

  • Imagine That!

    Funded Sep 23, 2020

"Imagine That" allowed our dreams to become a reality and gave an outlet to our imagination. In our virtual setting our discovery of Paris as a city took us from the mondaine routine of our lessons into creating our version of a city.

Students had the choice of creating a monument or a building as part of a city. We used Canvas to design the creations. The scholars after creating their design s shared the folder with me and I crafted them using the Brother ScanNCut.

Your generous gift came at just the perfect time and allowed scholars to run wild with their creations. We were also able to use the machine to create holidays cards to share with teachers and family members.”

  • Classroom Store Going the Distance

    Funded Sep 21, 2020

"Can you hear me?" is the common catchphrase in my students' vocabulary once they put their headphones on. Beyond the jokes, the headphones have made a huge difference in the way that we learn.

Learning from home, the huge issue that we were facing was the noise around and the difficulty at times for students to be able to focus on the Zoom or Google calls. Now that we have headphones, they put them on and they are able to hear clearly.

Thanks to your generous donations, we are able to continue on this journey of Distance Learning one lesson at a time.”

  • Posters and Buttons to Get Out the Vote

    Funded Oct 8, 2020

My students and I always get excited about all of our class projects, but this one was a little more special. The timing of it and the urgency of voting made it more impactful for us all.

I was especially amazed at the creations that the group came up with and the enthusiasm expressed by them all. We first started with a simple conversation about voting and all that is shared in the media and on social media without getting caught up on this political party or that one.

We follow it up by creating a plan to help our community with getting out the vote. Each scholar has to come up with at least 10 people that they will target. They will then share the buttons and posters to encourage, inspire, and remind them to exercise their voting rights on or before November 3rd.

Thanks to your help, my middle scholars and their families are just a little more educated about voting and how crucial it is to maintain our democracy.”

  • The Next Generation STEM Creates a Podcast. 2

    Funded Sep 8, 2020

We owe you a debt of gratitude. You transformed our classroom into a life experience. The excitement is palpable. The students and the teacher are all over the moon and ready to get started. The first thing that we did after getting excited about the new resources is to do a little more research about what to do first.

The roles were assigned and each student had a clear idea of what was needed. We downloaded Audacity onto the computer and were able to record our first test sound. We voted on the first topic for our Podcast and it is who we are. Each student recorded a short presentation of self and we blended that to make our first podcast.

We all got a kick out of hearing our voices through the fancy microphones and recorded content.”

  • From Hand2mind, My Tiles Connect

    Funded Sep 23, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous gift. Equity in education is so important so all the students will have a fair opportunity to learn and to succeed. The Hand2mind resources made it possible to support our students that need a little extra support at home.

As we are still distance learning, the students received the booklet for the particular standard that they need help with and are able to practice at home. Each student in need received a set with the booklet and the Versa Tiles.

Thanks to your help, all learners have a fair chance to succeed.”

The classroom suddenly felt less than a classroom and more like life and the students enjoyed speaking and listening to French.”

  • Creative Expressions, Financially Yours. 2

    Funded Aug 28, 2020

Thank you for your help in bringing this project to fruition. The scholars are able to create their designs and send them to me and I print them. After that, they make their grand entrance in the Classroom Store. Each student is allowed to set the price of their design based on a fixed price on the t-shirt and the material that was used to get the idea to creation.

The interesting thing about this project is how invested each designer was with their product. They are always willing to set the higher price but are not willing to spend that same price on someone else's design.

Through it all they learned about the market, value of products and profit. Thanks to your help, they are becoming financially savvy.”

  • Girls Running to Fitness

    Funded Aug 28, 2020

We are grateful for your giving heart. My girls are running and walking and training. The initial idea is to keep the girls training by moving around the house and going outside to safely walk and run. They took it to the next level.

They decided to get together using a running app and training together as a group. So even though they are not on the same field, they are all doing the same thing at the same time. They are tracking their miles and staying fit and growing more in compassion and kindness.

And this is all thanks to you.”

I am having the most amazing time of my life in the classroom teaching and learning. Yes, most of my students have no interest in taking a second language as they are still struggling with their first language. Yes, most of my students come from a background that didn't prepare them for a traditional classroom where the teacher teach and the students learn. But what they lack in academic readiness, they make up for in attitude. It is my mission to build that attitude into grit and move my students from a proficiency level to another one. In between the 2 proficiency levels, our class is exploring using financial literacy, SEL, jumping, laughter. We are building, creating, researching, speaking, listening, reading, writing and growing. We can only develop into a better version of who we are today by the time we finish our journey and we owe it all to you our donors.
