  • Options for Individualized Activities for Unique Student Needs

    Funded Jan 13, 2023

My students and I are so grateful for your generous donations to fund our project, "Gift My Students with Headsets and Mics to Facilitate Learning ." I would love to describe to you the impact this has made on my students.

In my opinion, differentiating instruction is one of the most difficult tasks for a classroom teacher. Especially in a world language classroom, you have students who develop their skills at various paces. Using this iPad as a means of differentiating instruction, has provided my students with a variety of activities to improve their language proficiency while I simultaneously work in small groups with those who need more support. On the iPad, students can access a curated youtube playlist with a variety of current pop songs. They can access videos with questions on Edpuzzle. They can do French crosswords and word searches. They can record video messages to their pen pal. Each of these activity serves to reinforce their listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills.

This is just one example of how your generosity has allowed me more freedom, creativity, and flexibility when differentiating instruction in my classroom. Once more, thank you for your donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lambert

  • Gift My Students With Headsets & Mics to Facilitate Learning

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

My students and I are so grateful for your generous donations to fund our project, "Gift My Students with Headsets and Mics to Facilitate Learning ." I would love to describe to you the impact this has made on my students.

Listening and Speaking are two out of the four skills that students need to develop when learning a new language. Unfortunately, it is difficult for one teacher to assess the speaking of an entire class. Since all of my students have access to headsets and mics, I am able to design activities where students can listen to recorded prompts and answer with a voice recording. The use of these tools opens a vast array of opportunities for me to assess their communication skills. Most recently, my students were given prompts and asked to give their opinions about various current events, for example, "What do you do to protect the environment?"

This is just one example of how your generosity has allowed me more freedom, creativity, and flexibility when planning practice activities and assessments. Once more, thank you for your donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lambert

  • A Clearer Path to Digital Learning Part 2

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

My students and I are so grateful for your generous donations to fund our project, A Clearer Path to Digital Learning 2." I would love to describe to you the impact this has made on my students.

We have been able to do many technology-based projects, which reinforced 21st century skills and provided opportunities to make learning French more meaningful to the students. The students loved our Classroom Rules project. Students made a list of things NOT to do in our classroom--DON'T throw paper on the floor, DON'T yell out the answer, DON'T sleep in class. They were able to use their vocabulary from our Back to School Unit and practice making negative commands. They used the iPads to take pictures of their group members doing these "forbidden" actions and put them into a Google Slides presentation. They made captions with their commands and recorded theirselves reading the commands out loud. Students enjoyed watching the creative presentations made by their peers.

This is just one example of how your generosity has allowed me more freedom, creativity, and flexibility when planning assessments and collaborative projects. Once more, thank you for your donations!”

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students and I are grateful that you chose to support our classroom. I can’t wait to get started using our new iPad to help facilitate learning for learners with a variety of different needs. • A Clearer Path to Digital Learning 3

    Funded Oct 29, 2021

I can't even express how grateful I am for your generosity! This project is so important to me so I can meet the individual needs of my students. By providing them with iPads and Apple Pencils, I can allow them to participate to their fullest potential by appealing to their need to "write" their work rather than type it. Additionally, your support means that our classroom can make strides towards protecting our environmental resources by eliminating paper consumption. Thank you so much for your generosity!”

  • A Clearer Path to Digital Learning

    Funded Jun 14, 2021

This year I'm grateful for so many things and at the top of my list is in-person teaching and learning. Since March 2020, it feels like students and teachers have been flying by the seats of our pants trying to adapt to one adversity after another. Finally, the 2021-2022 school year has offered us all a moment to step back and reflect on what we were doing pre-pandemic and how we will proceed.

Teaching remotely during a pandemic taught me many things. I was forced to reach outside of my comfort zone and find new ways to communicating with my students and facilitating online learning. I enjoyed exploring new platforms and apps to use with my students and I have maximized my use of online platforms in order to have a paperless classroom this year.

Unfortunately, with a paperless classroom, there are some students whose needs will not be met. A segment of our student population simply doesn't learn best using Chromebooks. That is where your generosity plays a role. With the iPad I was able to purchase, I can offer students the opportunity to "write" their assignments using the iPad and Apple Pencil. The hardware I received with this Donor's Choose project mimics the feel of paper and pencil to meet the needs of those students, but also allows us to maintain our classroom's paperless presence.

I've gotten plenty of feedback from my students and everyone who has used the iPad and Apple Pencil LOVES it. I am so pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to my students and I am grateful for your generous gifts.”

  • Gift My Students with Sound and Speech to Facilitate Learning

    Funded Feb 28, 2021

What a great school year it has been so far! Teaching and Learning almost feels "normal" for the first time since March of 2020! Students are working together, speaking up in class, interacting and socializing and I am so grateful to back to in-person school.

One good thing that happened during NTI is that I discovered a whole new way to teach using online platforms. As a language teacher, it was always hardest for me to assess speaking and listening with my students since I was the only facilitator in the class. Now, with platforms like Classkick and Seesaw, I can record myself asking questions and students can submit recordings of themselves saying the answers.

When we do a speaking/listening activity in class, I am so proud to be able to offer my students the hardware they need to be successful. With the money you donated, I've been able to buy enough headsets with microphones that no one in my class has to go without. I am grateful to each of you for helping me make this happen. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • Expanding Students' World View With African Literature

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

I would like to let you know how grateful I am for your support of the teaching and learning that takes place in my classroom. I am humbled that you chose to support my project, "Expanding Students' World View With African Literature." The book, L'Enfant Noir/The Dark Child provided an excellent starting off point for cultural comparisons and enlightening discussions in class.

At this time, with our country's Black Lives Matter movement, this literature is more relevant than ever. Young people are using their voices to make change in policy so that all citizens can be treated equally. This novel gave them context through the point of view of a man of color and how he was treated when he moved to Europe from Africa. Students can use their world-view, sparked by this novel, to enact change within their own communities.

I thank you sincerely for your support of this important project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lambert

  • Making Self-Care a Priority for Vulnerable Teens

    Funded Oct 18, 2019

Thank you so much for supporting my Donors Choose project, "Making Self-Care a Priority for Vulnerable Teens". As a result of your generosity, I was able to provide my students with school supplies and hygiene products so that their families wouldn't have to bear the financial burden that comes with the start of the school year.

Through this project, I have observed a direct correlation between providing for students' basic needs and seeing students achieve academically at higher levels. My students and I have an excellent rapport and I attribute much of that to the success of this Donor's Choose project. My students feel valued when they know I care for them as people, and not just as students. They see me not only as a teacher but as a caretaker.

Every day I give out deodorant, tampons, pads, and bandaids to students. My deodorant was the first supply to run out. Image is so important in the delicate social framework of a high school. Students know that if they forget or don't have any deodorant, I've got them covered. Feminine hygiene products are expensive and some girls are too shy to ask for them. I keep them on my desk and girls know that they can take whatever they need. Having them on my desk has broken down some of the stigma and embarrassment that girls feel over having their periods.

I am proud of this project and I appreciate your generosity in helping young people take care of their personal hygiene needs.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lambert

Many of my students don't have the luxury of getting new clothes and supplies for back to school. I teach in a school where 36% of the students come from low SES homes and qualify for our free and reduced lunch program. These students show up to school, eager to learn, but they are lacking in basic hygiene products and supplies. Every day I give out deodorant, tampons, and bandaids to students. I provide them with tissues and hand sanitizer. Many go the entire year without a binder or a pencil. Please help me eliminate these non-academic barriers to learning.
