  • Science the Lego Way!

    Funded Jan 16, 2025

In our Plant and Animal relationships unit, students were able to actively learn and build plant models to learn about plant parts. They were so excited to use the Lego's to creatively design and build plants they way they wanted. it was really fun to see the way they built pants differently.

After they built their plant models, they recorded their answers on a data sheet. The they answered questions about plants work like a system.

Keeping students engaged in what they live to do is such a great motivation to help students learn!! Thank you so much for giving my students to learn in a fun and exciting way.”

  • The Power of Wind Energy

    Funded Feb 23, 2024

Thank you for helping my students by providing them with materials to help deepen their learning! They were able to learn and understand how renewable energy works. They got to put together wind turbines and investigate how different variables can change the amount of energy that is created. They also got to take on the roles of engineers and design their own turbine blades and test them out! We even delved into different jobs that people can have in this field of work.

We had an awesome time and experience learning and investigating renewable energy and how wind turbines work. They loved being able to design and test out their ideas. Thank you for providing my students the materials to learn, explore and investigate as engineers. They were so excited to see and use the materials! Thank you for making a difference in my students lives!”

  • Snack Time!!

    Funded Dec 14, 2023

My students were so happy when they saw the snacks!! Their faces brightened with excitement.

Our class has snack time every day but not everyone brings in a snack and sometimes they forget. Most often it's the same kids who don't have snacks because their parents don't pack them anything. Now everyone gets to have snacks together with their friends and nobody gets left out.

Everyone got a chance to talk about their favorite snack and tell about why they like it. It was so great to see them having conversations about something that is exciting to them.

Thank you so much for making this happen!

Everyone will get to have snacks from now on!!”

  • Squeaky Clean Activities!

    Funded Dec 3, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My class has been using the DIAL soap everyday to keep our hands clean throughout the day and especially before lunch. My students are practicing good hygiene and promoting good healthy habits. Good habits that get instilled last a life time.

My students have been improving in their writing. We use the writing boards everyday. We use it to practice our penmanship. We use it during phonics to practice our spelling. It helps us to become writers! Thank you so much for helping us!”

  • Starting With the Basics

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

My class came into a room that was fresh and clean...thanks to the clorox. It's only been the first week of school but my students were happy to have clorox wipes to clean dirty tables and kleenex for their noses!

My students came in on the first day of school with a present! They were so excited. Every student got a pencil box and a welcome pencil. It made their day so much more exciting. I felt like it even helped some of the students who were really nervous to feel a little more calm.

The bulletin boards were decorated with a warm welcome sign as well as the door and inside of the classroom. The bright colors were fabulous!

I showed them some of the incentives they can get when they have collected enough points. The smencils are going to be big hit!!

Thank you so much for your help and bringing smiles to my students' faces, as well as, making their first week of school, the very best!”

  • Let's Write About It!

    Funded Apr 7, 2021

My students were soooooo excited when they heard that they were ALL getting their very own box of neon pencils. I saw really big smiles! They couldn't stop sharing about how they were going to use their new pencils.

My students and I are using the resources in a variety of ways. The organizer is a great way to organize writing tools the students need. It also provides easy access so they can spend more of their time on their work, instead of "looking" for a pencil. As a class, we all decided that we were going to use our new pencils for our next writing assignment. I actually ended up getting much neater work and more writing than usual! It was great!!

Our next steps are going to continue to emphasize our writing:

    * adding more details with our new pencils.

    * better penmanship using our new pencils

    * organizing our writing in a way that makes sense.”

  • A Warm Head Goes a Long Way

    Funded Oct 5, 2019

My class is learning about how seasons change and how people get ready for each season. We discussed the importance of being warm during the Winter so we don't get sick. Our culminating project was a DIY project for designing their own winter hat.

I didn't tell my students about the project beforehand. They came in to the classroom in the morning with the station set up with the materials. They were so surprised and excited to see everything. I felt so happy seeing their excitement. Each student got to choose their own hat color and which patches they wanted to use on their hat. Then they got to iron on the patches onto their hats! It was a great experience.

Our next step is a discussion on how we can keep other needy kids and/or families warm for the winter...maybe a fundraiser for gloves!

With your generosity, my class will all be a lot warmer with their new hats! Thank you!”

  • Hands On Science Through Family Engagement

    Funded Dec 28, 2017

We used the materials we got to set up stations during a Science event afterschool so that students and their parents can participate. There were 3 stations: Boat Making Station, Quake Station, and the What is a Heart Beat Station? In each station, there was some background information about the topic. For example, in the boat making station, there were images of different boats and a little summary about what makes a boat float. In the Quake station, there was some information about the Richter scale and images of real earthquakes. In the Heart Beat station, there was a chart of how many beats should be a heart beat from a child to an adult. It was an awesome experience. Parents and their children got to go from one station to the next to "play." All the families got to design and decorate their boats. Then they got to test them in a water table. That was very wet but lots of fun! Students also got to listen to their parents' heart beats. Their eyes lit up when they found the heart beat! All these great opportunities and experiences was made possible to your generous support of Science. Through your help, families and students were able to understand that learning can be fun. Together, they understood that learning doesn't just happen in school with a teacher but it can happen at home too!”

My students are diverse. They come from many different backgrounds. Our neighborhood has many new immigrants and our students vary from regular education kids to mainstream kids as well as 12:1 kids. Our schools motto is "Committed to Excellence." We strive to give our students the best resources we can. Many of them need hands-on materials and manipulatives so that they can "see" what is happening. Most days we break up into small groups to do mini lessons to review or strengthen concepts. Our goal is to try our best to help the kids meet their goals and succeed!
