  • "The More We Play Together"

    Funded May 9, 2018

We first learned about "Let's Play" by word of mouth. I begin inquiring about the trip several months prior to communicating with Donors Choose before seeking funding for our trip. This was our last field trip for the 2017-18 school year. Our students were excited and so were we as teachers.

This was the first time we'd visited "Let's Play" in Hoover, Al. Normally we would go to Kid's Castle which is an outdoor play area. Last year we got caught in the rain. This year we didn't have to worry about getting caught in the rain because this was an indoor venue. This venue required everybody to wear socks (teachers, students and parents). After a tough nine months of school, the students had a ball. We're planning to go back again this year (2018-19).

This trip provided a way for many of our students to get out of their home town and spending time with friends from other classes. By this trip being at the end of the year it gave many of our students an idea about a place to visit during their summer vacation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tatum

  • Touch This!

    Funded Feb 27, 2018

We cannot thank you enough for your generosity making it possible for us to travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee. We rode comfortably on chartered buses and the students enjoyed watching movies on the way and back. The trip was excellent!

We teach from textbooks, charts, videos and read a-louds. These resources are needed to introduce whatever lesson we may be introducing or teaching our students. Creative Discovery Museum gave our friends "hands" on experiences in the areas of music, theater, simple machines, art and so much more.

Since the trip, students are able to relate their experience as a self-to-text experience by relating what they can recall to what they're reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tatum

Our friends are some of the most important people in our lives. We tell our friends, "just like parents go to their job, coming to school is your job." We try to make learning how to read, write and solve problems as meaningful as possible by making connections with the real world. That's why we want our little friends to experience learning outside of the classroom by traveling to this "hands on" museum; that's why the project's titled, "Touch This!" Many times children are told, " please look, but don't touch." We want them to touch everything they can touch.
