Mad, Scientists!!!!!!!

Funded Nov 27, 2018

The students and I are using the materials sent to us to help with our mass and capacity units in Math and Science. My students are able to make better connections when they are using hands on activities. For example, in the Math lesson on how many liters does it take to fill objects in our environment, the students began to estimate and make predictions on their own with out prompting from the teacher or others. Phrases like, "I think we will need to use the I liter one, instead of the 2 liter one to fill it." or "I think we need to use milliliters instead because this one is too big." We love using the materials sent to us.

When the boxes arrived in the classroom, the students, asked, "What is in the box?" and "Is it for us?" They were really excited when the boxes were opened and discovered beakers, scales, liters, gallons, and other measurement instruments. They wanted to know exactly when we were going to be using them. As we approached the unit on measurement, there was a air of excitement in the classroom.

The next lessons, we will be comparing the capacities of items which hold gallons, half gallons and comparing them to liters. The students are also going to be exploring the mass of objects utilizing the scales for grams and kilograms. The question the students are working on is, what units of measure are used for measurement of objects, which are large and small, as well as, what containers hold larger and smaller amounts or capacity. Again, my students thank you for helping us to meet our learning needs in the classroom and providing us the tools to do so.”

With gratitude,
