As a teacher, I can't reach students' minds without reaching their hearts. I want students to become reflective, as I must be reflective on my own practices, to best equip them with the tools to make an impact in the world. My mission is to make the lives of young children better by creating an environment for them to learn, play, and grow as critical thinkers and well-rounded citizens. My classroom, Texas Southern University, is inspired by the work I did in Costa Rica where "Pura Vida" is the way of life. As young children of color, I want my scholars to know they are the best, no matter what anyone tells them. With a calm mind, courageous heart, and a pure spirit, they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. This will be reinforced through the Core Values of POWER: Perseverance, Ownership, Wonder, Everything with Excellence, and Respect. For my students, college will not be a "goal," it will be a given.
