Carry Your Own
Funded Aug 12, 2020Thank you for this donation. We were able to use the boxes to create personalized stations for the students who were in the building. The students had their own supplies caddy. It was filled with materials such as highlighters, markers, pens, pencils, sharpies, post-its, journals, mini rulers, etc. This prevented students from having to share; as you know, it is important to limit sharing with the spread of Covid-19.
The remaining caddies were used for the students who stayed for after school art program where they stored their art supplies. All in all, the students were happy to receive these items and also relieved that they were personalized.”

Funded Aug 12, 2020After my laptop overheated, I wasn't sure what I was going to do. I thank you for your generosity. We spent so many hours online, switching between screens, creating lessons and videos, a new laptop was very necessary. Thank you so much.
A new laptop helped me to be on zoom with my students, I didn't have to worry about if my laptop will make it through the lesson. I was able to meet with my students for their 1:1 time, I was able to attend virtual conferences, I was able to keep up with my IEP writing.
It helped with keeping me organized with the remote/hybrid responsibilities I had to undertake.”

Supplies to Start Teaching
Funded Dec 17, 2019Thank you so much for your generosity. You created a spark for the love of science in students that will stay with them for years. When my students receive their lab coats, they were beyond elated. They called me "the best science teacher ever" "this is the best gift ever". The icing on the cake was that students were going to dissect pig hearts the same day they got to use their lab coats.
I cannot thank you enough for your kindness. The students are super excited to come to science class, they cannot wait to do lab activities. Something about having their own lab coats make them feel validated.”

Funded Dec 16, 2019Thank you so much! So when I told my students they can keep the lab coats, I was called "the best teacher ever". Students said things like "wow, miss" " I feel like a real scientist". The joy you have brought on to my students is immeasurable. I thank you deeply for this great act of generosity. The students couldn't Wait to do their dissections with their new lab coats. You sparked a confidence and joy in my students for my class. I hope you continue to support science instruction. I cannot wait to get deeper into my unit and provide opportunities for students to wear their lab coats proudly.”

Charge our iPads please
Funded Mar 6, 2018The resources you have provided to my classroom have been a great help. now have a station caddy at every table where I keep supplies for students to use during group work. The caddies are filled with crayons, extra pencils, post its, highlighters, and supplies they can use to annotate, respond and take notes. The posters are around the room and it created a very colorful classroom. It is now a living document that the students can refer to. The most important contribution is the iPad charger. I have been able to use the charging caddy in the classroom to help make lessons more interesting with technology that is ready to go.”

Funded Aug 1, 2017I am very thankful and excited to start science class this semester. My students are grateful for your donations because I can revamp the curriculum to make their learning more interesting. We have begun the scientific inquiry and analysis unit. The students are investigating water contamination in a make believe town, as well as learning about the real world water crisis in Flint, Michigan. At the end of the unit, our students will take a trip to the Bronx river to test out the water quality there and create a plan on how they can help make the water quality better. Your donations has allowed me to make the curriculum more realistic and applicable to their life.
We will then begin our unit in reproduction, genetics and evolution. I am excited for them to conduct the mitosis lab so that they can receive a concrete understanding of cell divisions and what happens if cells are not dividing at the correct rate. They will learn about cancer and take their lab lessons into the real world and conduct a research
There are so many activities that we will get to do and its because of you! Thank you so much!”

Making STEM Real: Let's Get Digital
Funded Sep 16, 2016Dear Donors,
The day that I received the chrome books for my class was also the day we got a smart board installed in our classroom, I cannot put into words how excited I was. But I wasn't the only that was excited, the students were as well. Their face lit up when I told them about your donations. I picked up my packages before my first period class, the first class I saw were my sixth graders. I explained to them what donors choose was and about the great people and companies like yourself that are making education better for them.
What has happened so far is that we had them labeled and hooked onto the schools Internet access. We are now using the chrome books in the class in conjunction with the smart board. The kids are able to do interactive lessons and see their answers on the screen. They are in complete awe. I am letting them explore the possibilities while having the resources to differentiate the lessons. I am really surprised at the amount of students that lack computer skills and don't have access at home. If I could let them take it home as well, I would.
I just want to say thanks. You have created such an impact in my science classroom.”

Help us have a Science Fair
Funded May 18, 2016Dear donors
You have changed my science classroom in many ways than you cannot imagine. I am overjoyed and extremely happy to be writing this letter. When I told my students that we would participate in the science fair, they were excited but scared because they did not feel like they could make a worthy project to present. The public schools in the Bronx already have a reputation for not having the best projects but I told my kids not to worry and to bring forth their best. My school is a title I school where 100% of the students receive free or reduced school lunch; as you can expect, they simply do not have the means to afford sophisticated equipment. When we found out that our project was fully funded, we were elated.
Fast forward to the science fair, my students had a blast. One of our presenters had a lot of spectators at her station. It really made her happy and build her confidence. My 8th grade students were very grateful. I had no idea how many students had never even left the Bronx. This made our trip to Manhattan a special one. I look forward to repeating the science fair in the future.”
