  • Wiggling Through Reading!

    Funded Jun 6, 2019

The wobble chairs have made a huge difference in my children's learning experience this school year. They love to sit in these fun stools to do anything from reading, writing to art. These wobble chairs are part of my small group table in the back of my classroom and my students truly enjoy this corner in the room.

Since we've had the wobble chairs, every time I call a small group to the back table my students come enthusiastically and eager to get their wiggles out and take part of learning. I can count on eager learners and happy faces every single time!

As the year continues, I plan to do more guided reading instruction at this back table where I have these wobble chairs and I know that my students will continue to enjoy them as much as they have so far. Additionally, I am ecstatic to see how much growth they will do in their reading as we gather in this small focused space of my classroom. This place has now taken a new meaning because my students see this place as an exciting learning spot. Thank you very much for making this happen for my class!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Maranto

  • Mastering Math with Organized Manipulatives!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Having organized math manipulative has made a tremendous difference during our math block. My students can now grab what they need and when they need it. This gives them endless opportunities to discover ways to solve math problems using our class manipulative as tools.

As we continue to practice multiplication math facts, my students love to practice with a deck of cards playing a game called Salute. This is a 3 student game. One student plays as the "referee" and deals the cards. The other two students grab their card and puts it up on their forehead. The referee says the product of the two cards and the other two students must use their knowledge of multiplication facts to make the product given to them. This is a super fun game that my students have loved since the beginning!

My students have also practiced geometry concepts by having access to geometry shapes that are in bins that they can easily access. As we practice polygons and their attributes, students use different foam shapes and use them to manipulate them to make their own unique designs. The best part of having access to manipulative is that when children are practicing math they feel like they are playing and that develops important foundational math skills and most importantly memorable moments with math and for that I am truly grateful!

Your generosity has and will continue making math fun in our classroom! We can't wait to continue discovering new ways to play with math concepts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Maranto

  • Reading is Dreaming with Your Eyes Open!

    Funded Nov 1, 2018

My students' attitude towards learning has forever changed thanks to the seat cushions and flex chairs! Their willingness to read independently and work collaborative has highly increased due to having these new cushions and these special chairs. Without a doubt you have made a tremendous impact in my children and their learning this year.

When I asked my class to describe what reading is to them they said, Reading is to..." imagine," "create," " dream," "connect ideas or with others," "plan," "explore," "grow" and "learn." As 3rd graders reading is crucial this year because students are now learning through their own readings! My class has enjoyed using the flexible seating beyond reading time.

What these cushions/chairs have done for my students is truly incredible! Hearing my students say, " I love school", " I can't wait to be proactive so we can use the chairs", "Let's work together to learn" these are all phrases that prove that my students' learning experience has been enriched beyond measures and for that I am beyond grateful.

Your generosity means so much to me and all my children!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Maranto
