Growing through Professional Development
Funded May 21, 2015Thank you so much for your help in funding this project! I am excited to be able to use this ipad for professional development purposes. Being able to take notes and learn with this technology at PDs will make a world of differences for me. I owe this opportunity to grow as an educator to you all because you have made it possible for me to attend professional developments about technology with technology in my hands.
I have already been able to attend my weekly professional developments at school and utilize the ipad for greater learning. I was able to take pictures of set up projects, type up key points given and so much more. In the summer, I plan on attending many more professional developments to continue my learning experience to be a greater teacher for my scientists-in-training.
Thank you so much for allowing me to be a student in learning how to be a better educator. I truly appreciate the opportunity to grow and learn as much as possible because I must do my best for the very best kids.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lu

Funded Dec 30, 2014Thank you so much for your donation! Your contributions have allowed my students to learn science in COLOR! This has helped my students understand diagrams, key ideas, and new concepts in greater depth. My scientists-in-training were extremely excited to finally have pictures and diagrams in color, as it was difficult to truly depict differences in images when they were in black and white. The printer has made my students more excited to learn through guided notes, images, charts, and so much more. We cannot begin to express how grateful we are for your help in making science colorful.
Since we received the printer, we have been working on environmental issues through a gallery walk. Topics included were deforestation, acid rain, fertilizer runoff, global warming, over-fishing, fracking, and offshore drilling. At each station, I was able to provide images of the issues, charts to show the environmental impact, and diagrams to help students further their understanding. Following this, students took their environmental stance on these issues and completed argumentative essays, which led to the great 6th grade environmental debate! Following the debate, students were able to dissect through sheep lungs that allowed them to view healthy lungs from images of unhealthy lungs affected by air pollution. Colorful diagrams and pictures allowed the dissection to go smoothly, while students were engaging in their science education.
This project has allowed me to enhance my lessons to gain greater student interest and provide a more vibrant atmosphere for learning. As much as a I can, I try to always provide images for my students to refer to and charts for them to learn from. My students now request more graphs and diagrams to enhance their understanding about topics, which I can now do.
My junior scientists and I sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and contributions to making science colorfully bright!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lu
