Full STEAM Ahead
Funded Mar 7, 2017My third graders were so thrilled to find out we had STEAM materials to use! They were immediately excited to try everything out. I have really seen students come together and work with each other to build, create, and understand our new tools. I watched as students worked together to figure out how Dash and Sphero worked with the coding apps available.
At first, students built "typical" structures like towers and castles, but they started innovating and building arenas for their beyblades, fences for Dash and Sphero to break through, and many other creations.
My new 3rd graders are excited to use these tools too!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Leonard
This classroom project was brought to life by Stavros Niarchos Foundation and 6 other donors.A Reader Lives a Thousand Lives
Funded Oct 3, 2016My students were so ecstatic to receive several large boxes filled with new books for our classroom library. We spent several days getting to know our new books and choosing our favorites. Several of the books that were donated have been very helpful in character development in helping my students knowing how to deal with situations. "My Mouth is a Volcano" is a helpful book in learning about blurting. "Decibella and Her Six Inch Voice" has been helpful in knowing how to have an inside voice.
In our classroom, we have literacy stations where students get to choose books that they would enjoy reading to help boost their fluency and their love of reading. Students love having so many new options to choose from. I have had several students borrow the books and take them home to share with their families, sharing their excitement. They always bring them back in great condition.
I have several boys in my class who love to build and are future engineers in the making. "Iggy Peck, Architect", "Rosie Revere, Engineer", and "Ada Twist, Scientist" are their new favorite books.
My class and I are forever grateful to you and your generosity to share books with my third graders.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Leonard
