  • Beyond High School

    Funded Jan 25, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity! Your contribution is going straight into the hands of my students, and will help them gain skills to navigate their lives after high school. I can hardly wait to share these resources with them, and will immediately put them to use as soon as I unbox them!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ford

  • Send the Next Women's Soccer Star to College

    Funded Jun 12, 2020

Your incredible generosity toward my student has not been forgotten! She graduated in June and was all set to begin playing soccer at her college this fall until COVID once again interfered with her plans: she is attending college remotely now, as the soccer season was postponed until Spring 2021.

In the pictures we've shared you'll see that our future soccer star received all of her materials and is very carefully storing them until she can use them when she moves off to college next spring. She wants you to know how grateful she is for your support--she really can't wait to put all of her good things to use and start her college life in person.

Thank you once again for your donations and your well-wishes for this very special student. We all hope that the pandemic will slow soon, so that she can resume her trajectory toward soccer stardom!”

  • Support a Future Congresswoman as She Starts College

    Funded Jun 19, 2020

Your generosity toward my student this summer has enabled her to start college this fall with confidence and courage. Despite COVID-19 and all the uncertainty it brings, she is ready for all challenges! She wanted to thank you all personally, so here is her message to you:

"I am writing to thank you for your generous donation towards my education, I am happy and appreciative. I plan to go college and study political science and become a congresswoman or a lawyer speaking for those that have been silenced and representing women, Blacks, and immigrants... which all makes me who I am. Although you might think your donation was a simple act, from my point of view your contribution to my future is more specifically toward THE FUTURE. I cannot express my gratitude enough, I want you to know how much your donation will help and support my dream and hope one day I could a different in someone as you have in mind."

As this graduate's teacher, I know a bright future lies ahead of her, and I'm so grateful that with your help we were able to launch her off to college in this way.”

  • Sherlock Holmes Heads to College!

    Funded Jul 1, 2020

Thank you all once again for your incredible generosity in funding Student M.'s project. As you can see from her photos she is OVERJOYED to have so many great books to read, puzzles to solve, and an amazing camera to hone her photography skills.

Student M. has already faced some huge obstacles in her life and right now she is delighted to have so many great gifts to keep her occupied through the COVID-19 quarantine. You must know how excited she is to have art supplies and books to keep her busy while she quarantines at home and prepares for college.

I'm going to miss Student M. very much now that she has graduated and is moving on into adulthood. This project is like a care package to send her off and it was only made possible by your incredible kindness.

Thank you all so very much from the bottom of my heart!”

  • Et Tu, Donor? Give Us the Gift of Shakespeare

    Funded Oct 24, 2018

Due to your generosity, my students have access to Shakespeare in multiple formats! They are loving reading "Julius Caesar" with their individual Dover Edition texts and also with the many graphic novel formats you donated to our classroom library. These different graphic interpretations help English Language Learners access Shakespeare much more than they'd otherwise be able to.

Thanks to you, we will be studying this great text closely this spring and we hope to stage our own performance of the play. My students love Shakespeare, as you'll see in their own thank-you notes to you. They also feel very proud to be able to say that they've read and understood such an important text while still being new to English!

Once again, I'm very indebted to your support of my students. Thank you so much for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ford

  • Help Stock Our Classroom Store!

    Funded Jan 4, 2019

Thank you so very much for your donation. In these photos, you can see that my students are already enjoying your donations by taking part in our classroom store. You can see student store managers filling out sales receipts and managing inventory, student customers using their laptops to make withdrawals from their simulated online bank accounts, and everyone excited about the chance to get real and useful items in exchange for the simulated currency they've worked hard in class to earn.

We're all so grateful to you for your kindness and generosity. Without you, our classroom economy would lack important real life incentives for students to learn about personal finance. With your help, these newcomers to the U.S. are learning valuable skills about budgeting, balancing their wants vs. their needs, and using money wisely.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ford

  • Help Build My Classroom Library

    Funded Dec 5, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom library. I apologize for the belatedness of this note--it has been a very busy school year! In these photos you can see my students using the books you purchased to learn more about personal economics and then create presentations to show to an audience of their peers. Without your support, this project could not have happened!

Now that my students have graduated from Brooklyn International H.S., they begin their new life as independent adults. They are sure to use the skills they learned about personal finance to help them find their way in the world. Thank you once again for all of your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ford

  • Service Learning Materials for High School Activists

    Funded Apr 12, 2016

    Dear Donor,

It's so generous of you to have funded my students' materials for their service learning projects. The photos that I have posted here show your materials in action--my students used the button-making materials, pens, tote bags, and small canvases to teach elementary school students about issues facing immigrants today. The design-your-own-tote-bag was a particularly big hit with the elementary school kids and with my own students. They loved writing messages on the sides of their bags like "I Support Immigrants!" These messages really mean a lot in today's very charged climate.

Now that we are wrapping up the 2015-16 school year, my fellow teachers and I are preparing for a whole new crop of seniors who will enter our classrooms this fall. We've already thought of service learning projects that the students can do around the big 2016 presidential election, and I can see buttons, tote bags, and canvases again coming in extremely handy for those purposes. Thank you so much for your generosity--it is so greatly appreciated here at Brooklyn International!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ford

My students are wonderful teenagers from over 30 countries around the world, and they are all new to America and to the English language. They come from China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Tibet, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Ukraine, Mauritania, and many other countries. And the beautiful thing about our school is that all of these students learn to collaborate in class and build their English skills and their content knowledge together. It is a community of caring, respect, and generosity and I feel very lucky to be a part of it. Many of my students are from families that have very recently arrived in America, and as such, they are just getting on their feet economically. Many of these families chose to come to the U.S. in order to give their children educational and professional opportunities not available in their native lands. I want to provide my students with the very best materials and educational activities that I can possibly offer.
