Black Poets Matter
Funded Feb 1, 2018I cannot thank you enough for these generous donations! What an amazing birthday surprise! I am already pre-teaching the skills that my students will need to devour these works. I can't wait to bring this beautiful work of poetry into my classroom. Thank you all so, so much.”

School Supplies for a Strong September Start!
Funded Aug 25, 2016Thank you so much for the resources that you donated to my classroom. Because of your support, all of my students were able to begin the year with all of the supplies that they needed in order to learn. As a class, we have already shown one year's growth in reading and phonics!
Each day, we store our worksheets in the binders that you donated. We write stories and make colorful, hands-on projects using the art supplies that you provided. The whiteboards are now my students' favorite classroom activity -- each day, they beg to write on them!
As an educator, I am constantly trying to think of hands-on ways to keep my students engaged in learning. Without donors like you, and supplies like the ones you have provided, this simply would not be possible.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 11 other donors."Ms. Conner, Why Can't We Read Batman?"
Funded Oct 21, 2015Thank you so much for your generous donation. Ever since the graphic novels have entered our library, my scholars look forward to sustained silent reading time in a way that they haven't before. There is a wait-list to borrow every single new book! Because of the books' popularity, I also see my scholars engaging in reading-based conversations in the lunch line, at the cafeteria, and during activity breaks. Popular conversation topics include "Who is the traitor?" in Runaways, "Could Ms. Marvel beat up Spider Man?" and "When is Maya going to finish Brain Camp so I can read it already?"
As a result of increased student engagement during independent reading time, we have seen significant classroom growth in reading comprehension, site word recognition, and phonics! Our most recent I-Ready data indicates that 77% of our scholars have already grown a year in key elements of comprehension! I am so proud of my scholars, and so grateful to all of the donors who made this all possible.”

The Ties that Bind(ers)!
Funded Aug 24, 2015Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The binders, dividers, notebooks, folders, and other supplies that you provided to my students have helped exponentially in our mission to differentiate learning and teach vital organization skills. On the first day of class, my students were so excited to receive their binders! As they personalized their binders and folders, I overheard comments such as "These are so new!" and questions like "These are ours forever? Really?"
In the self-contained setting, space is limited and precious. These binders have helped my students to organize their work neatly and reliably. We use our binders every day. We start class with a daily warm up, which is written inside the notebooks that you provided. We keep all of our classwork inside of our binders. Lost notes are a thing of the past. When the students are studying for tests or quizzes, they know that their notes are in a safe place that can be easily accessed.
The goal of this project was not only to increase academic rigor in the classroom, but also to teach my students accountability and organization. Since the start of the school year, I have seen them use the binders independently with increasingly regularity. They know what papers go in which section. They know where to look for notes. They see the benefit of a clear system of organization, and are slowly learning to implement that same system in their take-home materials. My time with my students is limited and precious -- I am now able to rest easy in the knowledge that they are leaving my room with organization skills that will benefit them in high school, college, and the workplace.”

Projecting Differentiation for Special Education
Funded Feb 11, 2014Thank you so much for helping our classroom to get a projector! It has helped bring the world of physics to life for my students.
With the projector, we have been able to stream real-time experiments from educational websites and take the students step-by-step through extremely complicated natural processes. We have been able to increase our students' technology literacy by teaching them to present their own scientific data using PowerPoint and the projector.
Additionally, the projector has been invaluable in our mission to provide an equalized physics curriculum for our self-contained special education students. Students know when they are not getting access to the same materials as their general-education peers. Our students know that they are being held to the same standard as a gen ed physics classroom, and the technology in the room reflects these expectations.
This year has been a joy. My students are excited about science. 100% of them are currently passing Physics with a grade of 85% or better. Your contribution has made this school year possible. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ms. Conner”
