My students need access to high quality, entertaining stories that will help them conceptualize difficult science and math concepts. By getting lost in a story, my students will learn multiplication, division, place value as well as explore careers in science. My plans are to introduce difficult topics to students using the books in the project to motivate and increase understanding. I plan to send the books home to share with their families to promote healthy and valuable discussions about science and math. I chose Ada Twist: Scientist and Rosie Revere: Engineer by Andrea Beaty to help my students understand the link between science and math and future jobs. I want them to dream BIG when they begin thinking about their life career. I chose Six Dinner Sid by Inga Moore to get them excited about multiplication and division. Third grade math is no joke! The students are asked to perform on a very high level during this pivotal year. Last, my plan is to promote writing through the use of these wonderful, high quality pieces of children's literature. Writing about concept and stories enhances understanding as well as building valuable communication skills.
