Supplies to Organize and Engage
Funded May 10, 2023Thank you so much for being so kind as to donate to our classroom next year. We had a lot of fun unboxing the items and have already started using a lot of the supplies. My students were in awe of everything that was sent to our classroom and how much people care about us. We have completed projects using the scissors, markers, and colored pencils. They came out beautiful because of our new supplies thanks to you. I have also used the folders to help students get organized second semester and many students have done much better keeping on top of their work as a result. We are so grateful! Thank you again!”

This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Foundation and 6 other donors.Games for Word Play in ELA!
Funded Sep 2, 2022I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity! The word-based games you helped me purchase have brought a lot of fun to my classroom. They came in early enough in the year, that we were able to use them to help build our classroom community. You helped my students break the ice and socialize in a low stakes way that was also rooted in English Language Arts. My school also instituted a flex block period once a week and the games have been instrumental in providing students options during this time. My students and I greatly appreciate the gift! Thank you so much!”

Calling All Readers: Literacy Center with Flexible Seating
Funded Sep 4, 2018I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations to my classroom. The bean bags and rugs have allowed me to turn the back of my classroom into a literacy center that my students love. Any time we have independent work, be that reading or writing, my students want to sit on the bean bags to do their work. It is always the first question asked when they are told to work on their own or in pairs. It has worked well as a reward and has encouraged engagement in my students because they know that they are only allowed to use the space if they are working.
When they were first delivered to my room in giant boxes, me students immediately knew what they were and offered to help take them out and get them set up. I explained to them that all of this was donated to our classroom and they were in awe that people would be so generous to us. Creating this space for my students has shown them how important they are to me, but the fact that it came from the donations of people who are strangers to them has shown them how important they are to others as well. They take pride in the space by keeping it clean and showing other students what our room is like as they travel from class to class with their friends. It is always a delight to hear, "Oh my God! You guys have bean bags in here?"
As the year progresses, I plan to use the space to provide more authentic reading experiences to my students. When we get to do a unit involving literature circles, student will pick a book and join a group of other students reading the same book. Throughout the unit, I will rotate groups of students who get to read in the literacy center so that every one of my students can use the space while reading a high interest book of their choosing.”
