  • We Can Measure It- Hands on Math Manipulatives!

    Funded Feb 15, 2020

We hope you all are staying safe during this uncertain time. Unfortunately due to the tornadoes here in Nashville and the current covid-19 situation we have not yet gotten to use our new materials.

Of course my scholars for next year will get the most benefit out of these materials as they will be used during our measurement units!

Scholars will get the chance to use real life manipulatives like centimeter cubes to practice their measuring and comparison skills. The linking centimeter cubes will be great for little hands that struggle to keep things neat and straight. While we are super sad we have not yet gotten to use our materials due to this tumultuous time we are so grateful to you all for your generous donations and support of our classroom! We hope that you will continue to support our classroom for the next coming school year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

  • Connecting Reading to the Real World!

    Funded Aug 4, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our class! With your contribution we have been able to learn so much already from our monthly Scholastic Newsletters and activities. This month we have learned how to compost pumpkins in the fall, compared bats and birds to find similarities and differences and learned about tools firefighters use like a special camera to see through smoke! These monthly newsletters have exposed our scholars to so many new topics and really get them excited to learn more about non-fiction topics. We greatly appreciate your support!”

  • A Diverse Library for Diverse Learners

    Funded Jul 28, 2019

These books are the best surprise for my scholars. When they start this school year their classroom library will be filled with books with characters that look like them!

These stories help my scholars to build confidence and show them develop a love for reading. Every one of my students were able to relate to the stories and characters within these new books.

I have scholars of many cultural backgrounds but in particular several of my scholars come from mixed cultural backgrounds. When they saw the book "I'm Mixed!" they were so excited and will be able to read a lot of the books and feel a connection with the characters who struggle with things just like in their own lives.

Thank you again for your generous contribution to our classroom. My scholars deserve to see their race and family lifestyles represented in everyday literature and you have made that possible.”

  • Phonics is Fun-damental!

    Funded Aug 4, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom! Our scholars have gotten so excited to work during phonics centers since we have received our power pens. They have been able to work independently with the help of the power pens that let them know when they have chosen a correct or incorrect word/sound with a light and sound that alerts them. The vowel team and word family flip books have been an amazing resource during our small group guided reading time as we have been able to learn many word families that have increased our scholar's reading rate. In addition our scholars feel more confident in their reading with the help of practicing various vowel sounds and teams with the help of the flip books. We greatly appreciate your support!”

  • Protect the Technology!

    Funded Jul 30, 2019

We were so excited to receive these kindle protectors and the charging station to go with it! Not only are the cases eye-catching and match our classroom theme (superheroes!), but they are practical and have helped extend the life of our kindles! With the charging station, we have been able to insure that all devices are ready to go for each and every time we have independent learning so that students have access to engaging, exciting applications that help them grow their brains! Students love using the kindles even more with the cool covers that allow them to stand up for comfort too! We are forever grateful for your generosity!”

  • Technology Tablets to Promote Literacy and Math for the Future!

    Funded Jul 30, 2019

My students are thrilled to learn that through your generosity we will be getting access to technology in our classroom. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they open the box and find that our classroom was gaining 6 Kindle Fires to use! These tablets will be used during our independent learning rotations. During this time, students work on to practice skills they have learned in class. Not only does this allow reinforcement of important skills, but it gives the opportunity for teachers to work with small groups to provide more individualized instruction. Having these tablets will keep students engaged while learning! We are truly appreciative of this resource for our classroom that will help lead us to a successful school year!”

  • Help! We Can't Find Our Materials!

    Funded Aug 11, 2019

Our classroom has felt so much more organized and neat since we have received our table caddies and organizer drawers.

At the beginning of each lesson scholars know to look for their worksheets in their table trays and at the end they know to turn in exit tickets back into the tray. We have so many fewer lost exit tickets and papers thanks to scholars being able to quickly organize their materials.

Scholars are able to independently retrieve their tablets and work for centers thanks to the 10 drawer organizer cart and love to help keep materials where they should be. Thank you so much for helping us get organized!”

  • Reading is FUN-damental!

    Funded Jan 22, 2019

My scholars reading has grown so much since receiving these amazing materials. Every day they get to practice their decoding and blending which has truly increased their reading rate. They have gotten to enjoy the sight word books which have made them feel so much more confident in their reading. They have also really improved their understanding of what they read through the use of the Reading Comprehension Practice Cards- they love answering questions about the text now! My scholars are so much more engaged during their independent reading centers because of these fun materials and their ability to feel more confident in their reading. Thank you all so much for your contribution to our classroom. We truly appreciate you all!”

  • Hands on Math Materials for Engaging STEM Learners!

    Funded Jul 23, 2018

Scholars in our classroom have learned so much using the math materials that you all so generously donated to our class!

We have been practicing addition and subtraction using the Operations activity center and the whiteboard fact family houses. We have continued to practice learning how to build shapes using a variety of 2D shapes using the magnetic shape set and the geometry activity set. We soon will be using our write and wipe clocks to practice working on time to the hour and half hour.

It is amazing to see how engaged our curious scholars are when they have all of the amazing hands on materials that we received with your help! They were jumping with joy when we received our packages and still get excited every day that we get to bring out these fun and engaging materials.

We appreciate all of your love and support!”

  • Learning Through Play- It's time for Recess!

    Funded Sep 22, 2014

Thank you so much for your donations to our classroom! With your generous donations our class was able to receive many board games, Lego's, play dough, coloring books, and card games. When we received the many boxes my scholars were thrilled! They were so excited to find out what was in each box. As we opened the boxes together the scholars clapped and cheered for each of the materials that was pulled from the boxes.

Over the last few months my scholars have greatly enjoyed using these recess materials. While my scholars think that they are simply playing I have noticed that many other things are happening as well; through playtime with these recess materials my scholars have formed friendships, they have learned to work together, help each other, and play cooperatively.

With materials such as Lego's, play dough and coloring books each of my scholars has become more creative, we now have a classroom full of artists, builders, and engineers. While I too have greatly enjoyed watching them play and learn with and from each other through play I have also found that they have had the chance to truly just "be kids" at recess time. Again, we appreciate your generosity and the level of cooperation in our class has greatly increased with the help of the recess materials you all so graciously funded for our class.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Smith

My scholars, as we call our students, are a high energy group of 5, 6 and 7-year-old First Graders. My students love to come to school everyday to learn and have fun. Many of them have hard home lives and school is really a refuge for them; a place they can feel safe and loved. To them, school is a place that is consistent and meaningful and where they will be pushed to do their best, no matter their circumstances. We truly believe that ALL of our scholars have the capabilities to not only attend but also to graduate from college.
