Costumes for our School Musical!
Funded Mar 27, 2024Thank you so much for this meaningful gift. 100 students were costumed and we had a beautiful set for Finding Nemo Kids. This production meant so much to our entire school community. It would not be possible without generous donations from people like you. We are a title one school in a low socioeconomic community, but that does not stop us from dreaming big. Every year our school musical gets bigger and better. The memories live on in our students, staff and community long after the curtain closes.”

Funded Mar 11, 2024I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to our theater program. The items purchased have been used by many students both in the classroom and on the stage. The cast of Finding Nemo Kids cheered with joy when they saw the shark fins, tutus, and fish headbands. We have been using the other materials to create the set, make tickets, and programs- the works!
The theater program at PS 506 plays such an important role in our school community. The cast has hung posters advertising their musical all around the building. My younger classes walk into my classroom and see the costume racks and get so excited to see the show. They also get excited for the opportunity to participate when they are older. There will be three performance- two during the school day for students and one in the evening for families.
This year I have five students that are now in high school (sixteen years old!) returning to help with the show. They have come to every rehearsal and will be working backstage during the three performances. I think it is a true testament to the impact my program has on my students to have students returning five years later to help out and be a part of it. Thank you for being a part of it as well.”

Seussical the Musical at 506!
Funded Feb 22, 2019I would like to thank you again for your donation! We are in the midst of rehearsals as our show quickly approaches! The students are so grateful for their costumes! It is no small task making costumes for a cast of 85, so these details have been so helpful! I love seeing how much their costume boosts their confidence on stage. I am also so grateful for the new lighting equipment. Now the kids can be seen on stage! We would love for you to join us for our performance in June! Your heart will grow ten times in size when you see these kids give it their all on stage!”

Funded Apr 19, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donation to our school's production of Beauty and the Beast Jr. My students have been hard at work using our new resources to create props, set pieces and enhance their costumes. They love to be a part of the creative process, and it makes the show all the more important to them to have been a part of it every step of the way. We have about four weeks to go until opening day and the show is quickly coming together! We have two dress rehearsals coming up and we can't wait to see what their costumes look like on stage under the lights! Thank you again for your support of arts education. We appreciate it more than you know!”

Learning Through Puppetry!
Funded Sep 2, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom! My students just used the new puppet theater for the first time and LOVED it! Second graders created original monster characters on paper (including name, age, home, likes/dislikes, etc) and then brought them to life as a puppet. They shared these puppets on stage for the class. The puppet theater had my shyest students eager to get up and share their creations! As a teacher, I was absolutely thrilled to see all of my students sharing their work with great pride.
I will be using the finger puppets next with kindergarten as we begin to share stories and create characters. We will begin using the mini puppet theaters to share our "self image" puppets in which we share a story from our first day of school. We will later use the character finger puppets and create original characters and stories.
My third graders will begin an extensive puppet theater unit in January in which they will see a professional puppet show, learn about the role of the puppeteer and explore the history and different art forms of puppetry. After creating a variety of puppets they will write an original puppet show and perform on the stage!
I cannot wait to see these projects continue, not only this year, but the years to come as well. This is a donation that will be enjoyed by THOUSANDS of students. Thank you so much. We all appreciate it!”

Stage Supplies For Our Assemblies and Musicals!
Funded Nov 16, 2015Thank you so much for your generous donation! We have received all of the supplies off of our wish list! The microphone stands were already used in our Thanksgiving assembly and will be used again shortly in our holiday assembly. Our students love performing and were extremely grateful to perform with microphones. Their parents were equally as grateful because they could hear them! We can't wait to set up the spot lights for our upcoming performance of Aladdin Kids. Our stage crew is very eager to get them out and start practicing their lighting skills.
Thank you for supporting our school community and the P.S. 506 performing arts program. We really appreciate it!
