Orchestra #4
Funded Aug 10, 2009Your donation has helped us give more students the chance to study music.
It is our goal at to develop our music program so that each student who signs up for music will have their own instrument to use. Additional string instruments help us to accomplish this goal. You have helped us to come closer to our vision of developing one of the best string orchestra programs. For the past three years we have been recruiting new students through our Music and Arts programs. We actively showcase our music program and inform prospective students and their parents that they may study a musical instrument through group lessons, instrumental ensembles rehearsals and performances that will prepare them for further study in high school.
Right now, many students are sharing instruments. Your donation has an impact on how students view the music program, how much they practice and how they feel about themselves. Students take better care of instruments when they know it is their "own" to use for their entire middle school education from 6th through 8th grade. When they have their own instrument they view the program more seriously and are more likely to take the instrument home to practice. They feel special and this gives them greater self-esteem.
With additional instruments, more students will be enrolling in music classes next year, and this will help to grow our program and keep it vital. Students take pride in knowing that they are taking part in a very special program. Our musical instruments need to last for the future generations of music students.
Parents are also encouraged by your generous donations. Obviously our students cannot purchase their own instruments. But I have often heard from parents that if their child does well in music, they will consider purchasing one. But we must initially provide the each child with an instrument so that he or she will have the chance to study and develop a certain level of expertise.
Students who study music learn the joy of music first-hand through concert performance and they learn to work cooperatively with their peers. They also learn to focus and take direction, problem-solve and develop good study habits. Students derive great personal satisfaction from the study of music by opening up their creative abilities.
There aren't enough ways to explain how your donation has helped. The more people who give, the more children there will be reaping the benefits of a musical education.”

Beginning Guitar Program #5
Funded Nov 16, 2009By receiving additional instruments we will be able to produce more quality performances, thereby showing that students have deepened their study of music at a higher level. More students involved in music this way will mean that we can truly boast a performing arts program at our school and strive to prepare students for continued studies at the high school level and beyond. We want our students to embrace a life-long commitment to music regardless if they become professional musicians or music teachers. We want them to understand that music is something that they can do and enjoy all of their lives as it enriches the human experience.
Music education enriches the total education experience on its own merits and leads to dramatic enhancement of creative thinking, flexibility and presentation and enhances the study of other subjects. Students who continue music into high school will be more likely to stay in school and graduate.Receiving new musical instruments will help our students to succeed and provide our school with a strong cultural identity. ”

This classroom project was brought to life by Quincy Jones Musiq Consortium and 4 other donors.Orchestra #3
Funded Apr 21, 2009Thank you so much for your generous donation.
Students who can't afford to rent an instrument and kids on waiting lists are given an opportunity to play quality instruments which improves their experience and inspires them to accomplish more and more. Your donation has helped to elevate the music program and elicit more support and demand for music education for all students. Because of having a music program, there are discipline problems, higher attendance and kids are more likely to stay in school and graduate when they are involved in the music program. Kids learn a skill and positive behaviors that will last well into their lives.
The kids are also very appreciative of the fact that there are people out there who care enough about them to donate money to their music program. It makes them feel special, gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment when they are able to take music.
Thanks again.”

When students share instruments, they are available for home practice on a first-come, first-served basis. This can result in disappointment and discouragement. It is my experience that when a students come after school to sign out an instrument for practice, someone always ends up disappointed because another student arrived first to sign out the same instrument. As a result, students become discouraged and are less likely to come back the following week to sign out an instrument. With more instruments available, students are encouraged knowing that there are people out there who care about them.

Rock Band
Funded Jan 16, 2009Thank you very much for the donation of the drum set to our Rock Band proposal. Previously the students were learning drum set style playing by using a concert bass drum, snare drum and hanging symbol. They were doing very well, but it is not the same as using a real drum kit. Now they are able to learn correct drum set rhythmic techniques.
The guitar students were also surprised and happy to receive the drum set. The addition of this important equipment to our program has given all the rock band students a new enthusiasm for learning. They feel like they are playing like pro rock musicians, with all the "right stuff."
Thank you again for your generous donation.”

Funded Dec 2, 2008Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our music program. Since September, the students have been working hard, practicing and rehearsing for their concert this month. We currently have 35 guitar students, and your contribution ensures that every student will have a guitar to play during the concert. We have a great group of kids and I know they will be surprised and appreciative of your donation. Thank you again for helping us to give our music students what they need.
Sincerely,

Strings Program
Funded Dec 17, 2008Thank you very much for your generous donation. We're looking forward to receiving the new cello and putting it to use. There are several students who have been very anxious for the last few months to get started on cello, but there just haven't been enough to go around. Now they will get their chance. We gave a great performance for our Holiday '08 concert and with this new cello, we will be able to include more students in our Spring '09 concert. Thank you so much”
