Technology devices, such as iPads allow students to approach lessons differently. These devices cater to a variety of learning styles and abilities. Students who struggle in the classroom may find their education to be more productive with the aid of iPads. Numerous built-in modifications, make it easier for my students who have a variety of cognitive and physical needs to reap the benefits a tablet has to offer. Features include VoiceOver, which reads the screen out loud, Zoom, which magnifies the screen’s content, and Assistive Touch which allows me to adapt the touch screen prompts to the user’s unique needs. By donating to our project, you will not only help increase my student's independence, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic outcomes. A student with a learning disability can read along while listening to an audio version of a text on a tablet. Another student who has difficulty holding a pencil may find typing on an iPad to be an easier alternative. Additionally, educational software, games, and applications on the iPad can make the learning process interactive by engaging my students through videos, music, and audio text. It is not uncommon for students with disabilities to feel behind or left out, but the good news is that the iPad can level the playing field.
