I am a fourth grade teacher at a Title 1 school where 44.7% of the students receive free and reduced lunch services. The fourth grade students are very eager to learn and have a strong desire to become better readers. They enjoy hearing about real-world events, which promotes active engagement. My students need this opportunity to use informational text of current events to support their learning within the classroom. Being able to have access to "Time for Kids" magazine will allow them to engage and promote awareness in regards to current events. Furthermore, the new Common Core State Standards emphasize the importance of exposure to informational text in all grade levels, beginning at the elementary level.
