  • Diversify Our Library

    Funded Apr 8, 2021

Thank you so much for diversifying our library. My students loved to see themselves in the characters of these books. There were wait-lists for some of the most loved books in the classroom! Some of my most reluctant readers could not WAIT to get their hands on these books and read them.

In our classroom I love to foster the love of reading by providing my students with books that appeal to their interests. When students like what they are reading, they begin to form a love for reading.

These books will continue to foster a love of reading for my students for many more years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sommer

  • Fostering a Love of Reading!

    Funded Mar 4, 2020

My students were so happy to receive the new books for our classroom! They had expressed interest in different series of books and I just knew I needed to add them to our library. When the books came in the students could not wait to get their hands on a new book of their choice! Seeing the students so excited to read made my heart so happy.

In our classroom, reading is often done when students complete their work while waiting to move on to the next activity. The students have their own personal book box with books that they have selected from our classroom library. With the new books, the students often could not wait to complete their work so that they can begin reading their new books.

Every student in the classroom has thoroughly enjoyed the new books added to the library. They have enjoyed reading them to us (teacher and staff), reading them together and reading them independently. I cannot thank you all enough for your generosity; it has brought such happiness to the students!”

    With gratitude,

  • Clicking Through the Curriculum

    Funded Feb 20, 2017

I cannot express how thankful I am for your generosity. The students have been able to access web content for both our ELA and Math programs. Having access to this adds a more hands-on approach to the curriculum which is important during this stage of development. Students of this age still need the visual support and hands-on materials in order to fully understand the concepts presented to them.

The students have really loved being able to access a website called MobyMax. MobyMax provides the students with the opportunity to access all areas of education (ELA, math, science, social studies, etc.) at a level that is suitable for them. Students who need to be challenged are able to access content that is above grade level. Students who need a little extra help learning foundational skills are given the opportunity to learn and practice those much needed skills.

The Chromebooks have really gotten my students to be more excited about learning. When they earn certificates on MobyMax it gives them a sense of accomplishment and it boosts their confidence. When students feel great about what they can do they are willing to keep learning and keep on pushing themselves to do more.”

  • Making Learning Hands On

    Funded Dec 21, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation! My students were elated when we received our materials. They could not wait to play the Reading Comprehension Bingo games when they arrived. I indulged them and we played the Fact or Opinion bingo, they were hooked! Three rounds later and they were really getting the hang of telling the difference between a fact and an opinion.

My students also love the How Did You Solve It? Math Activity Cards as well as the Take It to Your Seat Math Centers. This year we have a brand new concept based math program that has been tough for some students to grasp. These centers help to reinforce basic math facts that some students have not yet mastered and also reinforce the conceptual aspect of math as well.

Lastly, the Daily Science Activities have really made it easier to work science into our day each and every day!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sommer

  • Enhance Our Second Grade Curriculum!

    Funded Nov 22, 2015

I cannot thank you all enough for your generous donations. My students and I love our projector! We use it throughout the day and has made learning more interactive and more fun. Students are able to watch interactive videos that explain the conceptual math topics that they are learning about this year. The students look forward to watching these videos every day and it really seems to help them grasp the daily math topics. We are also able to use the projector to make our whiteboard interactive; students can complete math equations this way.

We were fortunate enough to receive a document camera right around the time we were donate out projector and it has really helped to make all lessons more interactive. Without our projector this would not be possible!”

  • Little Learners Need Center Activities

    Funded Dec 3, 2013

Thank you for your generous donations! The students were so happy when they Lakeshore boxes arrived in our classroom. They just knew that inside of those boxes were wonderful materials to enhance their learning. When I showed them the CVC Word Work center they could not wait to try it out. We were just beginning to sound out words and beginning to spell CVC words so the timing was perfect! I then showed them the I Can Build Simple Words center and they absolutely loved that too! But, what they were most excited about were the Uppercase and Lowercase Alphabet Rubber Stamps. What's more fun than getting to stamp something?!

When the Word building centers were first introduced students were using them in pairs to build the words together. They were checking with one another to make sure they had the correct spellings and it was a great team building activity. Now, the students are able to use these independently to strengthen their decoding and blending skills. As for the stamps, well, the students ask every week if we are using them! We use them to spell sight words, construct word families and to stamp out simple sentences.

Receiving the products really brightened my student's day as well as mine. Being able to use new, bright and exciting manipulatives to strengthen their phonics and phonemic awareness is exciting and boosts confidence.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sommer

  • Complete Our Circle Time!

    Funded Oct 22, 2013

Thank you so much for all of your generous donations! The students were over the moon excited when the carpet was delivered to our room. They watched in anticipation as it was rolled out along the floor. They couldn't wait to sit upon it and have our first group meeting. As they were all given their new spots on the rug, they marveled at the bright colors and soft feeling on their fingers.

Aside from gathering on the rug for our circle/calendar time, we often meet on the rug for whole group instruction and for read aloud time. We spend a lot of time working together on language based activities on the rug as well as listening to really great children's literature. The students use the rug as a place to complete puzzles as well as to read some books on their own. They love to chose a shape or color to sit on and dive deep into a great book.

Math is a very easy subject to teach with our new rug. We are currently focusing on recognizing 2D and 3D shapes and we will often play a find the shape game on our new rug.

The rug lends itself to many great ways of grouping students as well. The possibilities with this rug for classroom management are endless! Thank you again for making my students' education that much more exciting for them!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sommer
