  • Calming Area

    Funded Jan 4, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation! This calming corner will help many students in numerous ways. Not only will it help students with their social and emotional well-being, but it will also give them tools to redirect/focus energy in a more productive way. The benefits of having these tools and options available in class are endless.”

  • A Class Set of a Beloved Classic

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

This beloved class set of The Little Prince has brought so much joy to our classroom. The students loved the story and were very engaged. They were always wanting to know what would happen next! This novel not only let me introduce the grade level standards, but also share the love of reading.

A few students took this opportunity to become leaders in the classroom! When we weren't reading as a class, we had reading circles where students would take turns directing discussions about what they were reading. True literary luminaries!

Theme and making inferences were our main focus for this book. Each planet had a life lesson, which lead us to discover the theme of the novel. They learned a lot about life, growing up, and reflected on different people in their lives who would have belonged to some of the different plants. It was very eyeopening for them and gave me insight to their own experiences.

Thank you for this wonderful experience!”

  • Art at Home!

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

We are currently working on an art project, Vincent van Gogh's "Three Sunflowers in a Vase" and it has been amazing for all of us so far. The students love sharing their creations and their personal take on a classic painting.

To open, I shared his biography then took them on a virtual field trip to the "Starry Night" exhibit in Paris. They were in awe and really enjoyed seeing his masterpieces.

After, I gave them the option to choose their media, and we worked on shading and texture. The students had so much fun.

Thank you for giving them the opportunity to express themselves through art, and for this incredible experience we were able to have in our virtual classroom.”

    With gratitude,

  • Books Are Our Doorways to the World

    Funded Jan 21, 2020

Your generous donations have made significant impacts on our students' lives and learning experiences. With the new library, students have been able to practice reading skills with books that interested them. They were able to practice writing summaries, make inferences, and draw conclusions, just to name a few. Students love tracking the themes in their book and being able to support their claims with evidence. They were excited to read.

In our classroom, reading is one of the main activities. Students can sit wherever they like, read a book of their choice, and they started to look forward to it every day. One activity we do in the classroom is called DEAR. It stands for "drop everything and read." For my fourth and fifth graders, we started with 15 minutes at a time and increased to 20-30 minutes at a time. Building reading stamina was a goal I had for my students, and when I would call time, they would ask for more.

I had one student, in particular, have a change of heart when it came to reading. He thought he didn't enjoy it. After he started to read consistently, and become invested in his book, he realized he liked to after he had the right book in his hand. Thank you for giving him that experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sima

My class is filled with second graders who are eager to learn! They are very curious and love to do hands-on activities to gain a deeper understanding of the content they are learning. This year our Magnet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 15. Life on Land, 10. Reduced Inequalities, and 9. Industry, Innovation, & Infrastructure. These goals have inspired me to create an atmosphere that incorporates these SDGs, so they are interacting with components from each daily. First, a propagation station for them to tend to and care for plants in the classroom that they will be able to take home and keep. The second is a social justice project to support people within our community. Third, a creation station for them to show their problem-solving skills through creativity and innovation. Thank you for considering supporting our projects. It is greatly appreciated.
