REAL Student Newspapers Need a Mac!
Funded Nov 17, 2017You did it! My student journalists will soon be using an iMac to design and edit print and online publications. We will now have the best graphic design technology and software available. Your generous donations will change student lives! My hardworking newspaper staff members will utilize this computer to create amazing and award-winning publications, and now can create illustrations and videos for both print and online use. Their classroom experience will now better prepare my students for a career in communications. Your donations mean so much for these students.”

Our School Captured in Moving Pictures: Video on Student Website
Funded Mar 12, 2012Your donation to help purchase a quality video camera for students on the school newspaper staff has already begun to make a difference for my students. As teacher/adviser for the newspaper staff, I have enjoyed seeing my students' enthusiasm for journalism and getting the story out to the rest of their school community renewed. Our website, which replaced a print newspaper two years ago, is a great opportunity for my students to practice every aspect of journalism and mass communication. Now, they are adding video to the website, and this allows them to explore broadcasting as well as print and online media.
While the added technology is still very new, students are already beginning to plan and create video packages for the website. It is gratifying to see them come up with new stories and angles for video instead of print, and students are already becoming so adept at using the camera, they are showing me how to use it! These students are excited that they are on the "cutting edge" of journalism and will have practical training and experience in all aspects of journalism (print, broadcast, online) before leaving high school. Your donations will mean my students will have training that is often not available to a high school journalism student, especially in our state and region.
The class will continue to spend this final portion of the school year to train and improve our ability to film and edit short news briefs and feature stories, and beginning in the new school year in August, there will be at least one video update for each section (news, opinion, features, sports) per week. Thank you again for supporting my students' learning with your gift to this project.”
