Diverse Novels for Diverse Readers
Funded Oct 28, 2022Thank you very much for providing our students with the opportunity to engage with diverse literature that will forever have an impact on their formation as readers and lifelong learners. Students have enjoyed these books so much that they have asked to read them more than once and some have even asked if they can take the books home with them at the end of the school year.
We appreciate you thinking about our students and providing them access to books that are reflective of realities (or fictions) that are unlike their own lived experiences.”

Ms. Santos
School Supplies That Spark Our Minds
Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you for your kind gift to our classroom space. With your donation of basic school supplies students have been able to use their creative skills without having to worry about spending their money purchasing items such as colored pencils and markers. Instead, they know that there is a place on campus where they are welcome to borrow or take any supplies that they may need. It's surprising to see what these seemingly small resources can signify to students in need.
With your help, our students were able to create a bulletin board welcoming our superintendent to our school. This allowed our students to feel empowered and proud of our school community.”

Funded Aug 3, 2022We appreciate your kind contribution to our classroom space. Students have been able to use the resources you provided to share their work with our entire learning community. So many of them do not have printing access readily available at home and cannot afford to pay at the library for paper copies of their work. Thank you for allowing our students to feel proud of their work and to be able to show it off during Parent Conferences and Back To School Night.
The attached images show the research and work produced by our students learning about Afro-Latinos during Black History Month in their Spanish class.”

Funded Jul 14, 2022We appreciate your generous gift! The classroom set of this novel has been used in a 9th grade class this semester and students have let us know that they love the themes addressed in the book. However, overwhelmingly, the girls in this class have stated that they appreciated seeing themselves reflected in a classroom texts. It's not often that our students get to engage with a book that centers young girls of color in technological fields.
Your contribution has helped our student see themselves in roles that they may have never thought about before.”

Ms. Santos
Mental, Emotional, and Physical Wellbeing for Social Change
Funded Jun 30, 2022We truly appreciate your generous donation to our students. Students have expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciation for the items donated, specially the yoga mats. Students in our club (and beyond) have used the mats on a consistent basis during lunch and after school. The short stretch and yoga breaks have also served as much needed mental health breaks. Students report feeling less stressed and less anxious after these student-led yoga sessions. Some of our students have asked to borrow yoga mats during extended breaks so that they may continue their practice at home.
Please know that your kind gifts continue to make an impact on the daily life of students!”

Funded May 17, 2022We appreciate your gift to our learning community. Students now know that there is always a place in Ms. Santos' closet where they can access snacks to help them keep focused through out the day.
With empty stomachs, it is difficult for students to truly learn. Many of them complain often about head and stomach aches that can easily be avoided if students had breakfast and lunch at appropriate times. I'm finding that if it wasn't for the snack that you helped make available, students would have their first true meal after 4pm.
Together, we are sending a message to students that if they are to succeed academically, they also need to make sure their bodies are nourished and hydrated throughout the school day.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Santos
More Than Just a Fidget
Funded May 4, 2022We appreciate your kind donation to our school community. Students, in and out of the classroom, have been able to enjoy different ways to help them manage their stress and anxiety levels.
Several of our classrooms now have a "quiet corner" where they can go to grab a fidget toy, do some journaling, or simply take a moment to breath. Students have expressed that simply having a "toy" during a high-stakes assessment has significantly reduced their anxiety levels.
With your gift, you have allowed us to create spaces where academics are valued and where students' mental health and well-being are also central to learning.
We appreciate you!”

Funded Aug 22, 2022We are very appreciative of your kind gifts to our classroom. Students have been immersing themselves in books that truly do speak to them. Students have the opportunity to make a choice about the books that they are reading, something that they don't often get to do. These books are of high interest levels and include a very diverse characters that often allow students to see themselves, their cultures, and communities reflected.
Already, I have seen reluctant readers change their perspectives about reading.
We thank you for allowing our student to have that choice.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Santos

Funded Apr 7, 2022Thank you for providing our students with relevant, high interest, and enjoyable books for students to read. This summer, I had the pleasure of working with energetic teens that voluntarily signed up for a summer enrichment program through which most of them discovered the pleasure of reading for fun and taking a step away from their screen time. Some of them, for the first time in a while, got to experience the joy of holding a brand new book that "spoke" to them, their lived realities, and validated their experiences.
We appreciate all of your support!”

Funded Jan 23, 2022Thank you for helping us keep our students safe. Since the lifting of mask mandates, some of our students have stopped wearing them. However, the vast majority has kept their masks on while in class or indoor spaces.
We understand that having to purchase disposable masks has not been a priority for some of our students and their families. I have talked to students who have chosen to reuse worn masks in order to save their parents money. This practice has proven to be unsanitary. Having clean, new masks at their disposal has made a huge impact on students.
Thank you joining our efforts to keep students safe!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Santos
