Building Language Through American Sign Language: We Have a Voice
Funded Jul 2, 2019I am so grateful for your donations. Technology is extremely important for my students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Technology brings the visual for them. Since they cannot hear, they are visual learners. They depend on things that are visual to aid in learning. The Signing Time DVDs are visual disc that introduce and reinforce signs in many different topics.
The products that I received are so rewarding. The Gallaudet Children's Dictionary is exciting because it gives a visual of a word, the sign of the word, and wonderfully it uses the word in a sentence for clarity on meaning. This is an extra benefit for teaching vocabulary. My students really love the Signing Time DVDs for partner practice of signing the words. The videos are so kid friendly, that the students are very attracted and focused when the video is playing. They are definitely learning more and faster than before.
I have a student who started school last week with no language; no spoken or sign language skills. She has been watching The Signing Time DVDs every day in a small group for about 30 minutes. She is now able to sign and communicate words such as pencil, school, bus, eat, scissors, glue, backpack, pay attention and so much more. This has made me so happy to see her happy.; now she is able to begin communicating. She looks forward to coming to school and learning everyday. I am so grateful for your generosity.”

Funded Aug 24, 2014On behalf of my students and I, we are so grateful for this wonderful easel. When my students saw the easel for the first time, they immediately "ooh" and "ahhh" . They were so use to writing and showing their work on a regular board they could barely reach. My students immediately wanted to go to the board and show their work for math. They couldn't believe that someone actually sent us a wonderul tool just because they cared; even though they had never met them.
My students and I use the easel every day throughout the day for all of our subjects. We do math problems of the day . We also do our Daily Writing on the easel. We do shared reading daily where the children are allowed to come to the easel and read to the class with the big book.
I have to say teaching with the easel has made me more confident in my students by allowing them to come up to a kid friendly easel and show what they know. I cant thank you enough. I want you to know how powerful this tool is, and it will continue to help my students grow.”
With gratitude,
