  • Learning Through Acting

    Funded Nov 16, 2022

My students love their Readers Theater books. We use them in small groups and when we have some extra time at the end of class. The subjects of the mini plays are fascinating and very engaging. My students can make cross curricular connections to science, history, mathematics, and the arts.

Any time you can get a Middle School student to read for pleasure, you have hit the jackpot! The fun of this type of reading is that it is shared with classmates and friends. The texts have easy parts and difficult parts making them accessible to all levels if readers.

    Thank you so very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schulz

  • Versatiles - Hands-on Learning and Discovery

    Funded Jun 17, 2021

Thank you so much for my Versatiles. I started using them last week with my 6th grade English Language Arts students and they love them. They hardly realize that they are working and learning but they are. The texts and questions are engaging and interesting. The Versatiles themselves really encourage hand to mind thinking. The students can check their own answers. So, there is no shame but only gain if they get an answer wrong. They simply check the pattern and make the correction.

They say 'thank you'. I say 'thank you'. We are looking forward to using them all year long.”

  • Math Fluency...It Is What Our Future is Built On

    Funded Mar 8, 2021

These resources have proven invaluable in these last few weeks before state testing. Even though students (thankfully) won't be penalized for low scores this year, I still want my students to do as well as they can. Achievements in math can help students to do great things long into their future. So many students enter Middle School with a deficit in Math and I don't want that to be my crew.

Being able to use these manipulatives (sanitizing them between students of course) has made mathematics more meaningful and concrete for my students. There is no better way to understand fractions, decimals, volume, and 2-dimensional shapes that by using models.

    So, we thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schulz

  • Creative Kids Nutty 4 Knitting

    Funded May 29, 2020

My dream was to have a Knitting, Crocheting, and Embroidery Club. Covid got in the way of that. We could not meet after school.

However, I came up with an idea. I was allowed to meet with Math students for tutoring. The Math tutoring students are below grade level and need different ways to look at mathematics in order to understand the concepts.

So, I introduced embroidery in Math. They used the yarn, needles, and cloth to embroider line plots and coordinates. They loved it!! I have never seen them so excited about Math. Some of them even ask to come into class early to work on their coordinate embroidery.

Thank you so much for your donation. You enabled this to be a reality. We have so many materials that Embroidery in Math and the Creative Kids Nutty 4 Knitting Club will both be a reality when Covid restrictions are over.”

  • ELA = Learning Through Play

    Funded Feb 29, 2020

My students read all day: the texts we study in English Language Arts class plus in Science and Social Studies. They also read mathematical real-world word problems.

Literacy is vital. This Versatile kit helps to make reading fun as well as develop the individual skills to read fiction and non-fiction plus develop vocabulary and writing skills.

I can already see improvements in my students' reading comprehension and fluency via the use of this kit. An added benefit is that my students use Versatiles. It feels like play to them!”

  • Ready, Set, Act!

    Funded Mar 20, 2020

Thank you so much for the Reader's Theatre that your purchased for our class. I had been teaching online and couldn't wait to get my students in the classroom so that they could start reading them.

Two weeks ago, I changed to hybrid teaching. Half of my students are now in my classroom. We started studying Fairy Tales and analyzing themes this week. We read the "Jack and the Beanstalk" play in the kit and compared it to the original story. The students loved it.

We are excited to read the whole series throughout the year.”

  • Math Hand2Mind - Real World Mathematics

    Funded Nov 29, 2019

If I had known the impact of VersaTiles on my students' learning, I would have asked for them sooner. I have them in a Math Center and my students are always eager to use them. They allow them to work together on complex math skills and, all along, it feels like playing.

I love the fact that the students have to match answers with the tiles. It adds an extra layer of critical thinking. Also, the tile patterns allow the students to check their answers confidentially and without cheating! That creates confidence and competence. My students rocked their last Math test (on dividing fractions). I am sure that VersaTiles helped.”

  • Future Engineers Love STEM!

    Funded Aug 24, 2019

My students are loving their MINDSTORMS Education EV3 Core kit. It is taking them time and teamwork to create their robot but they are making great progress. As they do so, they have had to work out how to access the instructions on-line, how to allocate the tasks for building, and testing the robot, and the gift of patience.

When the Middle school came to our Elementary school recently to talk about their transition, they shared about their Robotics Club. My students were eager to share their experience with robots thanks to your donation.”

  • Aquaponics in the Classroom!

    Funded Dec 29, 2019

Thank you so much for your help with funding this project. My students and I care greatly about our planet and we will very much enjoy bringing aquaponics to our classroom. My students will learn how nature and humans can work together symbiotically. This is a wonderful opportunity. We truly appreciate your generosity.”

  • Science Scholars Soar!

    Funded Dec 30, 2018

Our Fifth Graders in Florida take their first State Science Assessment - which affects the electives and core classes they take in Middle School. It tests them on everything that they learned in Science from K - 5. The test also expects them to have a lot of background knowledge about our galaxy, our planet, its rocks, its weather, its creatures, how forces and motion work and much, what creates the weather, and much more. This is a lot of knowledge.

Scholastics' Super Science' magazine gives my students engaging material to read that supports their learning in Science class, and builds background knowledge, in an engaging and interesting manner. The articles are so fascinating that they don't want to put it down.

Thank you so much for your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schulz

My students live in a digital world but don't have a digital classroom. I want to open them up to collaboration through online brainstorming and mindmapping via systems like bubbl.us and Edmodo. I want them to communicate through digital presentations via systems like Prezi, Animoto and Powtoon. I want them to create via coding and performance tasks through systems like Kahn Academy, DefinedSTEM and Scratch. My school will not be a digital school for three years. These Chromebooks will engage my students and prepare them for their future through fully integrated STEAM. Through technology, I can differentiate my classroom to meet my students' learning needs. I know what they are capable of and want to witness it!
