Magazines Sleuths on the Move

Funded Dec 31, 2014

My students were really excited to receive their new biography book set. Immediately the set arrived in the class the students wanted to begin to read the books included in the set. I recall one little boy saying, "Ms Gill, this is really cool. I love these books." The excitement was high when we received the books and still now after reading through all the biographies they are still the go to books for independent reading.

Over the course of the pass months we have written short summaries on each of the books. I have noted that the graphic organizers that accompanied the set was extremely helpful in get the students to write more independently. Now their finish product grace the bulletin boards in our classroom and better yet the students can orally discuss about the life of several famous Americans.

The scholastic magazines were also a hit. The students especially like the one about the ash beetle. I liked the part on opinion writing since it was a genre I was teaching at the time when that magazine arrived.

I am extremely grateful to you the donors for helping me to help my students succeed in reading. The materials I received helped me to make learning fun and exciting as well as easier for me to teach the reading skills laid out in the third grade learning standards. Please note that my principal was also excited that my project had received funding. She as well send her thanks to you the donor for your kind gesture.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Gill
