The donations for this project will provide a rug that will give students a place to sit in their own spot and engage with classmates during discussions about how others should be treated. I hope that by having mentor texts in the classroom students will have resources to refer to help start a dialogue amongst students that we should always treat others the way we would like to be treated.
The donations will also allow students access to stories about bullying, acceptance, and tolerance and will foster classroom discussions and will hopefully inspire them to empathize with the feelings of others. They can use the lessons learned in the books to help spread the acceptance of others by sharing their feelings about how it feels when someone bullies and mistreats them vs treats them with care and and create posters for the classroom displaying ways to make everyone feel that they are a unique member of the classroom.
