  • Check This Out! A Book Vending Machine!

    Funded Aug 14, 2021

There really aren't enough words to express how thankful we are at Loomis Elementary for your donation to the Book Vending Machine. The DAILY impact it will make on students' reading lives will be invaluable.

At this time the Book Vending Machine is in progress. We have designed the outside with the company and we are viewing and approving proofs for the design. Then we will receive the Book Vending Machine in 16-20 weeks. Although it is a long process, it will be completely worth the wait!

We will use this machine to irrigate the book deserts at our student's homes. They will have access to many different types of literature in this Book Vending Machine. It will give them the ability to create home libraries of their own.

Thank you again so very much for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

  • Guided Reading Room

    Funded Apr 2, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Because you donated to the project, teachers at the school are able to have all of the guided reading books organized and in one place. The locker shelves helped to double the amount of guided reading books we could fit in our storage lockers in the classroom.

Each day now, teachers come into my classroom and are easily able to find the materials in an organized and quick fashion so they can successfully run guided reading in their classrooms. Small group work impacts students on each of their instructional levels, therefore making learning more targeted for them.

Your donation is truly appreciated and makes a big difference in both the student's and teacher's lives. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

  • Make My Classroom a More Home-Like Space!

    Funded Feb 10, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to our home-like rug project. Not only is the rug huge, it is also beautiful and adds such a cozy touch to my classroom library area.

When the students first came into my classroom after I laid out the new rug, their faces just lit up like Christmas trees. It was the cutest thing. They all asked to go directly to the classroom library and sit on it to read. One child said, "I am obsessed with looking at this awesome rug!"

Since the rug's arrival, the students have enjoyed casually reading on the rug (socially distanced of course). They comment on how soft and comfortable the rug is to read on. They love laying on it and often tell me that my classroom is their favorite because it feels like home. This is the exact reaction I wanted!

Students who feel more at home and comfortable are more likely to feel comfortable taking academic risks as well. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

  • High Interest Books to Inspire Reading!

    Funded Jan 12, 2021

My students jumped up and down when they saw all the new books! Graphic novels are all the rage and my students were so excited to get their hands on one and read it. Each week since the books have arrived, my students are checking the new books out and reading at home at a fast rate. It has truly inspired my readers to read even more!

One student, Jacob, was particularly excited to read the Amulet series of books. He told me how much he loves this series and appreciated getting to read these books. He finished several of them in a week!

Again, thank you all for your kind generosity in helping me to bring new, fresh books to my classroom library.

My students have a renewed sense of excitement to read!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

Many of my students love to read so much. Oftentimes, they do not have books at home or have books that just aren't on their reading level. To eliminate this type of book desert, I let students take books out of my classroom library to read at home daily. High interest books, such as graphic novels, truly inspire my students to read. I believe the books on this list will not only inspire my students to read but create a love of reading for a lifetime. Thank you for your help!
