Manipulative Mania
Funded Oct 16, 2009I hope you can see from the photos posted that progress and success are already happening because of the donations that you made!! The children were thrilled to not only receive and begin working with these manipulatives, but also that someone out there cared enough about them to donate these materials to our classroom. I was amazed during the initial usage of these great manipulatives at the detailed creativity that the children came up with to sort and pattern each one. I can already tell a difference in their abilities to sort!! We've also put these manipulatives to work in our beginning study of subtraction. This is such a difficult concept, but now they the children have something to concretely see and touch, instruction and learning have been amazing. Thank you again for your generosity and your sincere concern for the children!”

Funded Aug 8, 2009Thank you again so much for funding this project. Having the CD player, headphones, and collection of CD's has already made such a positive impact on my students. One CD actually has each song in English and Spanish. I wish you could have seen my Spanish speaking students faces light up when they heard something familiar!!
The children have just been delighted to listen to the science songs and since we have begun a science unit on Rocks and Minerals, the songs have really made an impact on their learning.
Students feel comforted and encouraged by music and you have provided my students with this opportunity. With the set of headphones, we have actually been able to utilize these materials as a center too; allowing more students to take advantage of it all day long!
Again, thank you so much for your generosity!! You have made a difference in the lives of these children!”

Funded Aug 26, 2009I cannot even begin to tell you what an impact you have had on my group of 23 first grade students. Just for starters, they are learning the gift of generosity. Because of you and your kind donations, my students have been able to experience art at it's finest.
The squeals of their approval as I pulled each item out of the box when it arrived was excitement enough for them. But to be able to actually get their hands on everything and create art...it was amazing. With these materials, the children have been able to make various creations in response to stories we've read and creations as representations of themselves.
One student even proclaimed, "I am going to be an artist when I grow up!"
What a difference you have made. I thank you so much for bringing art to life and making it possible in my classroom. ”

Funded Jun 2, 2009As you can tell from the smiles on their faces from the photographs, the children were thrilled to have this collection of ABC books in their hands! We spent days reading through and enjoying all of them! The children just couldn't get enough! I put them out for children to read during independent reading time and as soon as I did, the basket was empty!! There was enough for each child to have one and now they pass them around each day!
To see children excited about reading is one of the biggest rewards of being a teacher. And now, you can share in that joy with me. To see even my most reluctant readers so eager to get these books in their hands just speaks volumes. There is something special about ABC books, and it was because of your generosity that there is now a collection of them in my classroom.
You have made such a difference in the literacy lives of these first graders; a difference that will allow them to be successful in life, even when they leave my classroom.
Thank you so much!”

Funded Feb 11, 2009From myself and 21 fabulous first graders, we would once again like to thank you so much for providing us with the materials to complete this project. I wish you could have seen the excitement in the children's faces as we started to fill the cups with soils and plant the seeds!
Without your support, I would not have been able to show my students the full life cycle of these plants. Being able to learn through this hands on experience has greatly and positively impacted their learning.
I know that the students have greatly benefited from seeing this project take place from start to finish; from seed to plant. This means so much more to them than seeing a diagram of the life cycle printed on a page.”

Funded Jan 26, 2009How can I ever thank you enough for what you have given to the children in my classroom? We have been reading these books ever since they arrived in the mail and the children have already gained so much from the great example that Ezra Jack Keats provides. His writing style is classic, and I have seen much improvement in the children's writing since we began. The children are making the connection between reading and writing, which is my ultimate literacy goal for them. They have learned to see themselves as writers and there is nothing they can't try! You have not only given them the opportunity to make strides in reading and writing, but you have taught them a life lesson- and that is giving. Thank you again for your generosity.”

First grader, First grader, How Does Your Garden Grow?
Funded Mar 3, 2009Thank you so much for the set of informational books about plants and their parts! These books are on the student's levels and will benefit them in science and reading! They will be able to read about the life cycle of plants and also uses and habitats. The students love the stamp set! They have already created many colorful diagrams labeling the parts of plants. It is one thing to be able to talk about each important part, but now my students can have a hands-on experience labeling each one! You have truly made a difference in the academic lives of these first graders. We are so thankful for your generosity. You have not only given them a chance to be more successful in science and reading, but you have shared with them a life lesson: giving. Thank you again!”

Funded Sep 12, 2008Thank you so much for your generosity. Having just begun a new school year, the children are excited about all the things in the classroom. By funding this grant you have been a key factor in helping me organize my space so it best benefits the children and their learning. We are so grateful for people like you that can give and support what we do each day in schools. I know the children will so happy and so thankful and I am too. So, once again, thank you so much for this donation that has allowed me to provide a special place for my first graders to learn”

Out of this World Science!
Funded Feb 7, 2008Your generosity is truly "out of this world"! I cannot thank you enough for the supplies that you have so graciously supplied my classroom with. The children will be so excited as this science unit on outer space is always a favorite. You are not only going to aid and supplement my teaching the children about science, but you have taught us another lesson: giving is what is at the heart of this and what should be rooted in all of us. Thank you so much. Please know that you have made an immediate difference in the lives of these children and many children to come”
