  • Eager Readers!

    Funded Dec 30, 2010

As our kindergarten year is coming to a close, I wanted to thank you for the impact that you have had on my students this year. Because of your donations, I was able to share three sets of books with my kindergartners and they learned so much.

The set we used first was all about weather. This is a big science standard in our kindergarten curriculum and the children learned so much from the books that were ordered through your donation. We read about rainy days, snowy days, and our favorite topic: rainbows!

We used the "All About Me" and "Feelings" books throughout the year during morning meetings and other appropriate times. For many of my 5 and 6 years olds, this is the first experience they've ever had in a classroom setting with 23 other children around! These books helped me and them learn how to be more aware of how they were feeling and how to work through it.

Thank you again so much for your generosity. I want to provide a strong literacy foundation for my students from day 1 and you have helped me be able to carry out that goal this entire year. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lochel

  • Movers and Shakers

    Funded Dec 30, 2010

Since receiving these materials and starting to use them in January, I have seen tremendous growth in my students! We are nearing the end of our Kindergarten year together and I can truly say that because of this project, my students have become more enthusiastic about learning.

We used the activity mats which came in two sets (ABC's and Numbers) on a weekly basis. They were great in helping me reinforce letter recognition, letter sounds, number recognition and number quantity understanding. I could see the learning and the joy on my students' faces as I brought out these mats each week for a different game!

The Yoga CD was also great! We used it also on a weekly basis and sometimes during a rainy day recess. I want to thank you all so very much for your thoughtfulness and dedication to public education. I want to thank you on behalf of my kindergarten students. Your generosity has made and will continue to make a positive impact on these children for years to come. ”

    With gratitude,

  • The Theme is Learning!

    Funded Aug 22, 2010

Because of your generosity, 23 very excited and enthusiastic kindergarten students have been positively academically impacted! Having these theme boxes has allowed me to work with small groups of children on various topics. I have taken a small group and worked with them on number sense with the number theme box. Many of them have been fully engaged with the life cycles box and will continue to be as we begin our study of life cycles soon. The materials in each box has provided me with many ideas for lessons to involve the children. The materials have also allowed the children to participate in more hands on learning! I cannot thank you enough for your donation and support of me, my students, and my classroom. ”

  • Shape Up In 3-D

    Funded Jul 12, 2010

In our time since receiving all the three dimensional shapes the children have learned so much and had so much fun in the process! The first thing we did was to blow up the inflatable shapes. I allowed the children to explore and build. Through hands on learning such as this, the children were able to understand so much more about the faces, round sides, and points. They learned which shapes could roll and which shapes could stack. Even more learning and fun happened when I challenged them to find an object in our room with the same same. We create a sort of "share museum". I want you to know that none of this learning could have taken place without your generosity. Thank you so much for your support. You have truly made an impact on the mathematical lives of these children. They will remember these lessons and experiences for years to come. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lochel

  • Save The World ... Make It A Better Place!

    Funded Apr 23, 2010

Thank you so much for the books about our wonderful planet Earth! The children absolutely loved reading them! We kept the stack in our read aloud area until the last day of school. I think we probably read them all two, if not three times each! We even passed them down to other 1st grade classrooms to share in what we were learning about taking care of our Earth. I think about all we as adults hear about on the news; most recently the BP oil spill. And although this is big information for a six year old to comprehend, I know I have provided them with a basic understanding of how important the care of our environment is. And that was done in large part with your help. Thank you again for helping me teach these children about saving our environment, because we only have one Earth, and we've got to take good care of it! ”

  • Art Smart

    Funded Feb 28, 2010

You have made such an impact on the students in my classroom! I knew it would, but I wanted to tell you again that our art center has come to life. Since the materials arrived, the children have been involved with painting projects on a daily basis! It is amazing to see these children and their ideas come to life when they simply have the materials to support them. The children have been engaged in and have learned many lessons these past weeks through art. I know that this positive, artistic experience will stay with them long after the paint dries. You have not only given them this wonderful opportunity, but you have helped me teach them an even bigger lesson: that of generosity. Thank you so much for supporting me, my classroom, the children, and public education. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lochel

  • There's No Place Like Home

    Funded Feb 12, 2010

What a difference you have made in the lives and the futures of these children! I cannot even begin to explain the excitement that took place, and that has continued to grow, since we got the books and costumes that so you generously donated to our classroom. The children read and dressed up and talked for days on end about what they would be when they grew up. Having the books and costumes allowed them to learn more and really put themselves in the shoes of different professionals. Since our unit has ended, their excitement has not. One poem that we are studying during our current poetry unit has to do with a poet writing about her job as a poet. The children have now taken this poem on, but are writing it as if they were a professional doctor, policeman, teacher and even the president. They are so much more aware of the needs and tools of each profession and there is no doubt in my mind that this is because of you and your generosity. Thank you again for making a difference in my classroom. The rewards are endless.”

  • Health Care Crisis Under Control

    Funded Feb 18, 2010

Well, the materials were received with great excitement and put to use right away! The children were thrilled to see our new books, plastic foods, and pocket chart. The first day we used the pocket chart to sort all different kinds of foods into categories. Then, we read all the books and learned many new ways to take care of our bodies. Lastly, the children used the plastic and magnetic foods to create healthy meals for each time of the day. I cannot even begin to explain to you the difference that the materials made in my ability to teach this unit. The children learned a tremendous amount more because of your generous donation. Having these materials was a blessing! I was able to use them to teach, allow the children to learn from them, and they still go back to the books and materials to work and learn. Thank you so much for helping my students begin with healthy behaviors at this early age. I know that you and I have made a positive impact on their future. ”

  • Books at our Fingertips!

    Funded Oct 23, 2009

I cannot even begin to explain to you how much more excited the children have become about reading in my classroom!! The bookshelf that you helped to put in my classroom has allowed my students to literally have books at their fingertips! They are constantly around this shelf, looking and checking out the latest books that I have placed there. I am so thankful that these books can now be made available and put into the hands of my students. One attribute that I wish to pass onto them this year is my love of literacy. I want the rest of their lives to be rich with reading and writing. And because of your generosity, they have taken many steps in that direction. Thank you again for your support, sharing your love of literacy with our class, and for your generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lochel

  • Calculating Literacy

    Funded Oct 9, 2009

I cannot even begin to fully express my thanks for your generosity. The math books that you made available in my first grade classroom are wonderful. Each book has already made such an impact on my students. They love the experience of listening to me read books aloud to them, and now that I have read alouds that teach math...the possibilities are endless! The children already have a better understanding of counting, one to one matching between number and word, patterns and simple addition and subtraction. All this, from a set of math books!! Thank you so much for providing this experience for my students!! They are not only enjoying me reading this books aloud to them, but they are reading them independently and are so much more engaged during math time. Their understanding has improved and will only continue to grow from here on out. ”
