  • Whispering Woods: A Haven for Bookworms!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

The new cushions, lamps, and LED lights have transformed our classroom environment! Students are now able to work in a more comfortable, relaxed setting. For example, during a group reading activity, the students sat on the soft cushions while the LED lamps provided a warm, inviting glow. The new lighting helped create a cozy atmosphere that encouraged focused reading and creativity.

When the students first saw the cushions and LED lamps, they were excited and amazed. They immediately began arranging the cushions into cozy spots and commented on how much more comfortable the space felt. The warm lighting helped set a calming mood, making them eager to start their activities in this new setting.

The next step is to incorporate the new lighting into our creative writing and art projects. Students will be encouraged to use the cozy corners with the lamps as their "inspiration zones," where they can write or sketch while enjoying the relaxed ambiance. This new setup is sure to enhance their creativity and focus as we dive into upcoming projects.”

  • Growing Beautiful Minds While Making Masterpieces!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

The students are using the new art supplies in their art project when creating their artwork for their climate paragraph and most recently on their animal project. They were happy to be able to use all the colorful pencils to create such masterpiece.

The students were thrilled when they saw the new colored pencils! They were excited to explore the wide range of colors, and many jumped right into testing them on scrap paper. It was clear they felt inspired and motivated by the high-quality materials.

The next step is to use the other items provided to create more wonderful art throughout the year. The kids will be so happy when they are able to use the googley eyes to enhance their projects.”

  • Exploring the Universe Through STEM for Science and Math

    Funded Aug 29, 2023

Science is an area where it is definitely a lot more fun when there is a hands on activity. While my class was learning about weather, it was more exciting when they were visually able to see the tools that is used to determine the weather especially since they have never seen one.

I remember the first day they walked into class and we had just started the weather unit, their little eyes went straight to the tools and that was the start of a million questions. They were so curious about all the new stuff sitting on the counter. I loved how so many light bulbs went off. It made the science unit that much more exciting.

I just want to say thank you once again for bringing such excitement into my class by donating to my project.”

  • Taking over the World through Sound and Organization

    Funded Jun 8, 2023

Thank you so much for all the wonderful donation to the class. The students are now able to organize our class and their supplies with a lot of ease. All of the bins help the children see where the supplies belong and if they need to find a certain supply they know where to go. This has allowed them to be problem solvers, if they do not have a certain item for an assignment they know where they can go and find it.

Also, the headphones and noise cancelling headphones are a wonderful asset to the class. Some of the children in my class have a noise sensory issue and even though my class is very quiet, the slightest noise bothers them, so it has definitely been a blessing with those headphones.

Thank you once again for all the wonderful donation!”

  • Help Transform Kids Into Math Wizards!

    Funded May 9, 2023

The students in my class was ecstatic when the new classroom materials came into the class. They walked into the class and noticed the new materials in the math center and immediately asked what it was. After explaining to them about the generous donations from the many donors and how fortunate we were to be funded, they were excited to learn about the new classroom resources. Every time they finish their work, they asked if they could quietly play a math game. Towards the end of last year, we had a day where they were able to pick a new game to play for math and to see their face light up was amazing. Once again, thank you for all the wonderful donations.”

  • Getting the Wiggles Out During Independent Reading

    Funded Sep 29, 2018

Thank you all for the wonderful donation to our class. It has been an amazing year with the amount of reading the students have been engaged in. We have used the books for our biography unit that we just recently completed. The students were able to learn about all the different Americans that have made an impact in our life.

The students also loved the Growth Mindset books. We used them throughout the year for read a loud and have a discussions about what they notice. Third grade is a tough year, but reading those books have really helped the students believe that they are able to accomplished anything even if it seems difficult at times.

Finally, the students enjoy using the flexible seating. There is never a time in the day that they aren't using the flexible seating. As visitors walk through the class, they are amazed by the flexible seating that is being used in the class and the excitement on the students face as they are using the seat. Visitors have even asked where I got the seats from and I always reply by saying "from the wonderful donations from DonorsChoose."

Once again, thanks for all the wonderful donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nguyen

When you have students that move from place to place, city to city, state to state or even country to country every so often, it is critical to bring stability, warmth, home and a feeling of comfort to the learning environment to help them better assimilate to their ever changing lives. By providing something as simple as different chairs, it keeps the classroom fun and engaging but also allows the student to feel comfortable and let their guard down. Third grade is a time of transition and the best way for the students to learn and transition is to create a welcoming environment. That is why having different seating and comfortable seating will elevate this for the students. My students also need access to more books, that will help expand their mind and provide them with additional reading option. At this moment, we don't have enough books in our library for the students and having more donated and/or even having enough to provide them in the classroom for students to check out would be a dream come true. Books are gateways to infinite possibilities and I want my students to realize this classroom will provide them the tools to reach their dreams.
