Life-Long Reading at Home
Funded Jul 15, 2021These books are a hit with my class this year. I always like to introduce a series of characters in order to get students to continue to read other books from that series. They also can choose another book with the same characters. My students fell in love with Mr. Putter and Tabby and their adventures. I would read one each week and my students love to guess what mischief Mr. Putter would get into and how Mrs. Teaberry (his resourceful neighbor) would get him out of trouble.
The Amelia Bedelia character was one that I really never been interested in until I got this series of books and started reading them to my students. My students couldn't believe the messes Amelia would get into. I would just laugh at the literal way Amelia took directions from her employer. I laughed out loud several times as did my students!
The Magic Tree House book series is one that I'm very familiar with and use during my reading circle time. The kids love to check the books out so they can read them at home. They also like to check out the same book and read along together. I love to see the gleam in their eyes when they pick up a good book and can't put it down.”

Funded Nov 10, 2021These school supplies were a lifesaver for me this year. Like many other schools, we were hit with shipping delays, and these replaced some of the supplies that were on backorder from our school site. The students use the pencil cases in order to keep their crayons and other supplies in order. The kids were excited because I told them they would get to choose the color of the pencil case. The crayons had more colors than the school-issued ones from previous years. That also made the kids excited.
The fidget toys are the kids' favorite thing to pick up this year. They love to use them when taking a test to relieve some stress. I also use them in smaller groups in order to identify the sounds in a word that I say out loud. The students are to "pop" the fidget toy to show the number of sounds they hear. These have been a great idea that I plan to purchase some more fidget toys for the following year!”

Funded Nov 10, 2021These donations have been the single most used items in my classroom. I had told the students that a "surprise" was coming to give our classroom some warmth. The huge box was placed by our classroom door and I brought it inside. As the kids worked independently, I opened the box and assembled it quickly. The sofa was placed in the perfect area in the library. The kids couldn't wait to sit on it and read. During our small group time, one group gets to bring their chrome books and sit there. The students just love the sofa! I also purchased some throw pillows to make the space feel homey.
The rug that was part of this donation is where we gather for storytime. I pick out a book to read and the kids sit on the rug to listen. Kids also like to sit on the rug and read or do activities on their chrome books. My next step is to buy or get a donation for the bean bag foam in order to use the bean bags. I've always dreamed of getting a sofa for my classroom and now all I can say is thank you!”

Funded May 28, 2021The items from my project helped my students have the essential tools for online learning. I packaged the pencil cases with the various school supplies and have their parents pick up the items at school. The students were surprised by all the items that they would have in their home. Many were thankful that each one have their own supplies. Usually families have them share simple items such as crayons, scissors, or pencils. It put a smile on their faces to know that these supplies were donated for their continued learning.
My next steps are using what is left over of the items towards my next class of students. These students will be coming back to school and still need these types of items. I usually buy these supplies when on sale, but having some left over, I will use the other monies to purchase other items for the classroom.”

Funded Dec 2, 2020Thank you for the donations to fund my project "Hand2Mind=Curious Minds." When I created this project, I had planned for my students to be able to fully use the contents of these activities. However, due to the pandemic, as all teachers do, I have had to modify the way I use these materials since I have 10 students coming to school and the rest still learning online through Zoom.
The academic area that I have addressed using the Hand2Mind Math kit is mathematics. There are books that I use to motivate students' engagement. While the Versatiles are supposed to be used in cooperative groups. I have enough answer cases for individual use in school with my hybrid students. I am able to address the Common Core Standards in an interactive way. I used them this past month to for reinforcement of fractions and measurement concepts.
For the students that have stayed online, I project my document camera through Zoom and we use the tiles in the same manner as if they were in my classroom. The students enjoy watching me as I manipulate the puzzle pieces. We have used the books from the measurement, fractions, and place value standards. Teachers having various tools in his or her "toolbox" is always a good thing to have and your donation made this possible.”

Funded Feb 6, 2020Thank you for finding my headphone project. My students will be very grateful to be able to use these durable headphones with their Chrome books. These items are essential in their daily class learning. In the future, I hope to use these headphones for various subjects and new computer programs.”

Build Their Curiosity
Funded Apr 1, 2019I would like to thank you for giving life to my STEM centers this year. As illustrated by the photos I uploaded, my students enjoyed playing with these STEM blocks. When I first introduced the STEM centers, my students were excited to engage in each activity. However, these "Block Rocks" blocks sets were the most popular center this year.
As each student got to play with the "Bocks Rock" sets, they challenged each other to build the design on the card as fast as possible. As you can see by the pictures, most of my students had their heads down because they were so focused on making the design and beating their partner in ringing that bell! I also appreciated the two levels of difficulty included in these sets. It provided for equal access in my diverse classroom. Winning the funds for this project motivated another colleague to write a grant for these blocks and was successfully funded.
In the future, I plan on expanding my STEM centers. I have some other blocks, but would like to acquire more diverse activities to allow for student choice. I also want another two sets of these "Blocks Rocks" because I have groups of six students, so I would need another set or two in order for the whole group of six to play. I plan on incorporating their science interactive notebooks with at least one of the activities featured in my centers. I again, want to thank you for funding my project.”
