  • Books for All!

    Funded Dec 13, 2024

WOW! What a nice Christmas surprise before I go on Winter Break! Thank you for your generous donation. I can't wait to read the books I chose for my project. I usually read nonfiction books at the beginning of the year, so these titles will be relevant to add to my nonfiction collection. Happy Holidays!”

  • Dogman & the Case of the Missing STEM Blocks!

    Funded May 12, 2024

My students love the Dog Man books. This series of books motivate students to read because of the illustrations and format of the books. Students can check these books out of my library and read them during their free time. Having the flexibility to check out the books, help students read at their own pace. My students were excited for these particular books because it was the latest book in the Dog Man series. I had yet to purchase them and as soon as I put them in my library, students snatched them up to read.

The STEM blocks I use in both my math centers and science centers. Students love to use them to build. These centers help build their creativity and cooperation within the class. Students work together to build structures. These centers have students use problem solving in order to make sure the structures can stand. It's one of the times during school that students' minds come up with limitless possibilities in what they can create with these STEM blocks. Thank you for helping my students unleash their imaginations.”

  • Renewing My National Board Certification

    Funded Jan 10, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation for renewing my National Board Certificate. As an NBCT teacher since 2005, I am proud that I can be at the top of my profession through this renewal process. NBCT is the is one of the highest accolades one can reach as a teacher. The renewal process is every five years, so by renewing my credential, I am recognized as a teacher who is using up to date techniques and research and having a direct impact on students.

Going to through the Maintenance of Certification is my commitment to improving my teaching practices every five years. Within those five years, I must demonstrate that I am being a leader in my school community and gaining knowledge that can help my students. Your donation, will have impact not only this year, but years to come. Thank you again for your belief in me!”

  • Every Child is an Artist!

    Funded Mar 28, 2024

I am so grateful for the various art supplies your donation helped purchase for my students. We used the purple and blue construction paper to make a rainbow. Each "ray" of the rainbow contained an alliteration sentence. This is a standard that we work on in second grade. The kids loved the activity and I was glad to have purple construction paper because we usually don't have this color.

The other project shown in the picture are signs that the students are making in order to motivate our 3rd-5th graders as they are going to take the state tests. The students are using the washable markers to write messages and color the posters. They had a great time finishing the posters and showing them to their siblings at the state test rally. Thank you again for you generosity.”

  • Engaging Materials for 2024!

    Funded Feb 14, 2024

I wanted to tell you about the two projects that I bought with my Teachers Pay Teachers gift card. In the first project, the kids created a frog. Inside the frog the students demonstrated different ways to make change. They enjoyed the activity because they got to paint the paper plates and make the frog. I liked how the activity reinforced a difficult concept of using various coins to make change.

The second activity I bought focused on reviewing multiple meaning words. The cactus leaves were comprised of the multiple meaning word used in various sentences. The students enjoyed creating the cactus and gluing the leaves in different positions. I liked that the students were able to generate the multiple sentences in a creative way. I plan on buying more projects with the rest of the gift card. Thank you again for your donation!”

  • Supplies for a New School Year!

    Funded Nov 5, 2023

Thank you for the school materials. The pencils I requested are used daily and since they're pre-sharpened, I don't have to stay before or after school sharpening all of them. My students were surprised at all the materials. They now know they'll never say to me, " I don't have a pencil," because all they have to do is go get one at the front of the classroom.

I used the black folders to make my W.I.P (work in progress) folders. These are folders students have in their desks and put any unfinished work in them. The folders also have the sight words that they have to know this year. The students practice reading them when they have finished their work. The folders are an organizational tool to keep their desks tidy. These materials will be used throughout the year.”

  • Basic Needs and a Globe!

    Funded Dec 31, 2022

Thank you for donating to my project. The students were excited when they saw the package of our new globe. I put it at the center of my round table in the middle of the classroom. I wanted to see how my students would interact with the globe without my prompting them to ask questions. I get at least one question a day about the various countries and landmarks shown in this particular globe. I also use the globe during my social studies class. It has been a valuable tool in my classroom.

Another useful addition is the UNO cards. The students use them during math centers. I have shown them several games where you can use the UNO cards to add or subtract. The current game they are playing has them making the highest number possible with the cards in order to understand the concept of place value. They love playing with these cards because they name each of the Disney characters. My next steps are to teach my students more math games using the UNO cards.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Montana, NBCT

My second grade students attend a school in the heart of a major metropolitan city. They all are provided free lunch and most come from parents who speak little English at home. They live in an economically disadvantaged area. They are great students who are motivated to learn.
