The basic math and science manipulatives, will encourage and help facilitate intentional centers for learning in my prekindergarten classroom for years to come. Myself and my paraprofessional work with small groups during daily center time in order to keep the learning focused, but still fun. These new manipulatives would not only increase learning opportunities for our students, they are designed with a fine motor skill component. Using their fingers, grasping and squeezing tongs and tweezers allows them to increase their finger and hand strength and control, thereby making them able to properly grasp and manipulate their writing utensils. The science manipulatives encourage my students to investigate their environment and the things around them and to inquire about them to gain knowledge. The children's literature sets that I have chosen come with vivid props will inspire even the least interested child to want to hear and see more of the book; therefore, opening a door to create a life long love of literature. Those opportunities are rare and priceless. When a child is inspired to do better, to be better it is a great victory for our society as a whole. My goal with all of these each of these items is to support the individual needs of each of my students and inspire their curiosity and encourage their overall academic and social development, while making them to want to learn more EVERY day!
