Hello! My name is Liza Shannakian. I am a special education teacher at the secondary level in San Jose, California. I teach mild/moderate RSP (resource specialist) students in the specialized academic setting. I have over 90+ students in my Basic English courses, ranging from 9th-12th graders, and from reading comprehension levels from 6th- 9th grade. I strive to maximize the learning of all my students, whilst differentiating my instruction to meet their needs. Simultaneously, I try to utilize reading materials that they would find engaging and fun. Reading is fun, and it is fundamental as a skill. Writing skills are essential too, and tied to reading. I try to build and foster a love of reading and inquiry in my students. I create a curriculum aligned to the standards but that does not crunch the toes on materials of my general education English teaching peers. I create opportunities for students to improve the
