Rockin' and Reading Our Way to Learning
Funded Jan 15, 2024I just wanted to take the time to thank you for your generous donation. As noted on my project page, I am currently preparing my second graders for third grade state tests in which they need to read for long periods of time. During carpet and independent reading time, my students are often uncomfortable and struggle to sit still. When my students entered the classroom one day and noticed the "new additions" to the classroom, they were so excited! There was arguing over who could get to test them out first!
Having two adjustable, reclining, rocking chairs has improved my classroom in many ways. I have noticed that my students can maintain focus during reading for longer periods of time. The chairs have created a comfortable reading environment during reading centers, especially. The quality of their work has improved as well. They are able to recall important information, improve reading comprehension, and reading stamina. Because these reclining chairs are a HOT item, I often reward students with time in the "rock & read" chair. Students have even gotten creative with how to use the chairs. Some students came up with the idea to turn the two chairs into a couch! This is their favorite seating arrangement because 3 students can fit on the "couch". I have also been guilty of using these chairs while working with a small group during independent work time.
Since these chairs are a popular seating choice, I have since created another project to add bean bag chairs to our flexible seating space. Thank you, again, for contributing towards my classroom vision.”

Funded Jan 16, 2024I wanted to take the time to thank you for your generous donation. As noted in my project, I teach a reading program after school to improve students' reading comprehension and fluency skills. Oftentimes, my students do not have a snack from home to eat and I need to provide them with something.
Your donation has helped fill their bellies with popular snacks that all students love. The children were SO excited when they came to the classroom and saw Tostitos, Doritos, Oreos, Rice Krispies, Teddy Grahams, Pretzels, and Chips Ahoy cookies on the table one day. Since then, these snacks have provided my students with the energy needed to tackle difficult reading passages during our sessions together. I no longer need to hear, "I don't have a snack" because there is an abundant supply of snacks to choose from. I can now focus on effectively teaching reading with minimal interruptions due to hunger.
Thank you, again, for contributing towards feeding twenty-five hungry third grade bellies to help improve their focus during reading time.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Lissandrello

Funded Sep 29, 2022I wanted to take the time to thank you for your donation to my classroom this year. Students were able to use the new iPad to improve in so many areas during independent work time. Below are just a few ways in which the iPad made a huge impact in my classroom:
-Improved reading comprehension, decoding, and fluency skills through the Raz-Kids
application
-Learned how to use Google Slides for Project Based Learning activities
-Improved math fluency through games on the iPad
-Improved typing skills
-Recorded videos and took pictures for culminating activities
Furthermore, the iPad case helped preserve the iPad to prevent it from accidentally breaking. The children especially loved the strap so they could carry it around across their shoulder.
Thank you, again, for you generous contribution. I know that next year's students will continue to benefit from using the iPad.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Lissandrello
