  • Learning Fractions = Pizza Transformation

    Funded Aug 10, 2019

Thank you so much for your gracious donations to our project, Learning Fractions = Pizza Transformation! I follow the 2nd grade TN State Standards when teaching my 2nd graders. One of those standards is for my kiddos to learn how to write and identify fractions. What a fun and memorable way for them to learn by transforming our classroom into a Pizzeria. All of my students will now have their own Chef hats, aprons and tools to create their own pizzas. We will have stations where they can create, design and make different size pizza with assigned fractions. They will work with the cooking tools donated and the games to understand how fractions work as a whole. The books donated will supplement their learning with their hands-on learning. Thank you for a memorable day of learning for us!”

  • My Little Explorers Travel on a Nature Trail!

    Funded Aug 26, 2019

Than you so much for donating to our project, Little Explorers Go on a Nature Trail! We learned about reading maps, reading directions, reading a compass rose and learning how to navigate North, South, East and West. We found a secret treasure map left at our classroom door step. We followed the North, South, East, and West Compass Rose directions and followed the treasure map. Once we reached the end of our treasure map, we found a treasure box. It was filled with ice cream! What a great treat to find! We learned how to use a real compass while using our Explorer Vests! We loved wearing our Explorer Vests while exploring around the classroom and outside looking for insects. Thank you so much for adding excitement to our learning! We could not have done it without you! You have helped make learning fun and memorable!!”

  • Camping in the Classroom!

    Funded Aug 9, 2019

Thank you so much for your gracious donations to Camping in the Classroom! My classroom has been transformed into a Camping Ground. We even have our own fire pit cooking up grub. The tents have their own firepits with the cushy fake fire logs. The kids loved getting inside the tents and exploring the adventure of camping while reading and doing their other classwork. Most of my students have never been in a tent nor will ever go camping. I have given them this fun opportunity with the help of you and the other donors. I feel they will remember this week forever as they went on a Camping Adventure inside their 2nd grade classroom. Thank you again for all of your help with this project!”

  • Exciting Adventures Through the Love of Books!

    Funded May 13, 2019

Thank you so much for your gracious donations to our classroom project. The students can go on exciting adventures through the love of reading. My classroom is filled with fun places like a reading adventure boat, a fishing dock and a science shack. The kids take their books in these areas and can leave the classroom with the flip of a page. The books that are being added to our library will meet the needs of all of my students. I have ordered a variety of lexile levels and books with different genres. My students can learn about astronauts, dinosaurs, plants, and much, much more on their individual reading levels. Thank you again for your gracious support. The kids love all the books!!”

  • Bring the Rural Life into a Suburban Classroom with Chickens!

    Funded Jul 11, 2019

I am so, so excited for this project to begin! "Bringing the Rural Life into a Suburban Classroom with Chickens" is a fantastic hands-on and memorable experience for my suburban classroom and its students. Many of my students have never seen a farm or been on a farm. Some of them have only seen chickens, ducks, turkeys and quail on television. Now we can see them live and in person, and we can help them hatch in our classroom incubator supplied by Donors Choose Donations. We are learning about how to raise and hatch our chickens through the many books that we ordered with this project. Today I was so thrilled when a local farmer donated 15 Quail eggs to our classroom. We placed them very carefully in the incubator and now we have to just watch and wait. In approximately 16 to 20 days, we will be able to witness an amazing occurrence. These baby quails will hatch! Many of my students have never even seen a quail. What a memorable experience this will be for all of them! I know they will never forget this!! Thank you again for all of your donations to this project. We would not have been able to do it without your help!!”

  • Sitting Pretty in our new Aqua Trattoria Stools

    Funded Jan 31, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to our project, "Sitting Pretty in our new Aqua Trattoria Stools". These stools are so beautiful and sturdy!! I have many students who can be rough on furniture and these hardy stools can take the action. The kids love sitting on the stools in small groups. They've been working on math problems, reading partner work and science projects together while sitting on these stools. They are so durable and safe. Even when the kids try to rock back and forth in them, I have no fears of the kids toppling over in them. They are just the right height for my 2nd graders too!

We could not reached this goal without your gracious donations. Thank you so much for allowing my students the opportunity to work with these beautiful, sturdy stools. They look great in our classroom!!”

  • Sitting Comfy With My Friends on our Literacy Rug

    Funded Dec 4, 2018

Thank you very much for donating to our project called, "Sitting Comfy on our Literacy Rug". The kids love the new classroom carpet! It is big enough for all 21 of my students to sit comfortably on the carpet with space in between them. The added padding below it makes it extra comfortable to sit on. The beautiful vibrant colors of blues, yellows, oranges and green really light up our classroom. Our theme is fishing this year and the colorful fish with letters and numbers on them really add a sparkle to our room.

The kids are able to lay and sit on the carpet and perform reading partner activities, work with math manipulative, work out small group work and just enjoy a leisurely day lounging with a great book on the carpet.

Thank you again for your donation to our classroom. We couldn't have reached this goal without you!!”

  • Chromebooks Make Learning More Fun!!

    Funded Dec 4, 2018

I can not thank you enough for the new Chromebooks for our classroom. The students love working with technology! Our new math series allows them to access I-Ready Math. This aligns with our 2nd grade standards. The students are able to work out problems independently. The computer allows them to go up in levels. This provides enrichment activities to broaden their learning of the new math concepts. If a student does not comprehend a topic, the program will allow them extra instruction and details on how to solve these problems.

The students also work with two reading programs called Ticket to Read and StarFall. Ticket to Read allows the students work on their own levels. The chrome books allow them quiet access to their level and provides them with both enrichment and extra practice at their pace. Starfall helps give the students a love for Reading through songs, story books, poems, etc.

The students are able to log on to the Chromebooks on their own and get started every morning without an adult's assistance. The Chromebooks are very kid friendly! The students' tests and classroom scores are improving in both Math and Reading with this extra practice on the Chromebooks. Chromebook's Do Make Learning More Fun!! Thank you again from all of our kiddos and me!!”

  • Viewing Interesting Creatures And Organisms Up Close

    Funded Aug 23, 2018

Thank you so much for your donations to our classroom. We have received four awesome microscopes and slides that allow my students to view different organisms up close. We learned in class about how scientists use different tools in the field and in laboratories. The microscopes allow my students to play the scientist role and view organisms such as animals, insects, plants and other microscopic organisms up close. The students loved seeing the goldfish scale and its many rings. They were surprised how the bamboo shoot looked like circles. The students love going through the slides and finding their favorite organisms to look at and observe. In 2nd grade we learn about animals and their habitats, plants and their ecosystems and different adaptations of both plants and animals. Observing these creatures up close gives the students a more personal look at how the animal or plant looks on a microscopic level. The students feel so grown up when using these tools. When they observe the tools, its really fun listening to their Oooohs and Awwwwhss as they observe new cells. Their drawings turn out to be really good replicas of the actual cell. These microscopes are allowing my students a great head start in the Scientific Tools area. Thank you again for your donations! We could not have done it without you!”

  • Help Us Use Models to Compare Ecosystems in Our Classroom!

    Funded Aug 23, 2018

Thank you so much for your donations! We have received various aquariums and tanks to allow us to compare different ecosystems in our classroom. I have created a Science Shack in my classroom and the kids love it!! They are so drawn to this area of the room. One student said, "Its like a different world in here!" The kids take turns feeding the fish and watering the plants. This instills responsibilities and helps students learn to care for animals. The students love watching the different varieties of fish. They use our science table with magnifying lenses and other science tools to observe different species. Sometimes the students love to just sit and relax in the Science Shack and listen to the sounds of nature as I play it on a CD or they read different science books to each other. This cozy area is definitely an area that is visited often. We could not have done it without your help! Thank you again for your donations to help make our Science Shack an Awesome place to learn in our classroom!”
