Let's Learn English!
Funded Nov 15, 2024Thank you so very much for your generous contribution to my class.
As a result of having this grant fulfilled, I have been able to purchase many wonderful activities and games for my students, specifically those learning English for the first time. These games allow them to learn and practice new vocabulary, practice conversational English skills, and work on the social/emotional component of playing games in the classroom.
The headphones allow students to work independently on reading and listening skills using our ELA curriculum that truly supports their individualized growth and success.
It has been wonderful watching their language flourish, along with the bonding that has come from playing academic games.
I truly appreciate your support of my teaching, along with your commitment to public education. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Funded Aug 15, 2019Thank you so much for your contribution to my class!
You may not realize it, but students sharpen their pencils many times throughout the day! Gone are the hand-cranking pencil sharpeners of our childhood, instead replaced by high-powered, motorized sharpeners that provide a crisp point! Your contribution allowed me to provide this in multiple spots in my classroom so that the students could easily and frequently refresh their pencils. Thank you so much for giving to my project, supporting my work, and believing in public education in New York City!”

Funded Sep 3, 2019Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom!
Charts are a fabulous way that teachers help students to understand content and processes in the classroom. I have always used colorful and fun charts to not only decorate my room, but to support the teaching and learning that is going on. The materials this project have provided me allow me to continue to do that with ease. My students marvel at the way the charts hang and are accessible to them while they are learning throughout the day. Thank you so much for your support, and for your commitment to public education in New York City!”

Funded Nov 30, 2022Thank you so much for your very generous contribution to my classroom. I really appreciate your support!
My students were so excited when the packages arrived! They loved doing a "haul" and showcasing everything we received and imaging how we would use it!
The resources have enabled us to set up a clear and easy to navigate writing center, with tools and supports available which allow the students to be completely independent during the writing process. They now take on the role of keeping the supplies, paper, and materials refreshed and accessible to all. This has not only supported their learning, but allowed them to grow with executive functioning, materials management, and of course, develop as writers. Thank you for your commitment to public education in New York City!”

Put Your Books Away!
Funded Nov 30, 2022Thank you so much for your donation! I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful this project has been! My classroom library has been transformed by the colorful bins and labels that now organize the hundreds of titles that I have in my classroom. The students and I spent hours organizing the titles by level and genre to make everything easy to access. They took turns categorizing and sorting the books, labeling each one with care. Now we have a complete and extensive library that allows them the ability to find books they truly enjoy. The neon colored bins brightens our classroom and makes everything cheery to look at. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and for supporting public education in New York City!”

Funded Oct 14, 2021Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom!
During the 2020-2021 school year, I worked from home to service the fully remote 5th graders in my school community. My classroom was used by several different teachers over the course of that year, as the restrictions on spacing and the size of the groups was consistently changing. As a result, all of my supplies and materials were utilized and I returned in August of 2021 to a nearly barren classroom. Your donation allowed me to refresh my supplies and be better prepared to meet the needs of my students. They were so excited to see and use everything, and I assure you that I continue to make great use of everything. I truly appreciate your support of public education!”

Classroom Library: The Remix!
Funded Dec 31, 2021Thank you so much for your contribution to my class! The books that I purchased allowed my students to form book clubs, where they can read the same text and discuss it. We now have a vast array of genres for them to choose from, and they eagerly visit our classroom library daily. As the population of my school contains primarily Title 1 (low socio-economic) students, having a variety of texts to choose from allows them to read more frequently without having to purchase books. This has also helped greatly during Covid, where public libraries had restrictions on visits and book lending. Thank you for your commitment to public education! Your support is very much appreciated.”

Remote Learning with Supportive Technology!
Funded Oct 13, 2020Thank you so much for your tremendous level of generosity in supporting my Donors Choose project this year.
The iPad, Apple Pen, and case have been an absolute lifesaver, and are items that I use each and every day. Not only does the iPad act as my "chalkboard" to be able to show my students how to solve math problems with multiple steps, but the ability to change colors also provides learners of different modalities with the ability to see things that just make more sense. My students absolutely love it.
Thank you so very much for your help, especially during these difficult times.”

Say Cheese!
Funded Mar 26, 2019Thank you so much for your very generous contribution to my class. With your donation, I have been able to purchase 6 digital cameras for my photography/technology club. My students were able to take photos on their own, learn to upload and edit them, and use them both in their yearbook and the graduation photo montage.
At a time when so much technology revolves around the phone, be it iPhone or Android, it is comforting to see children still learning how to use photography in spite of the advances in technology from traditional film. Thank you for giving my students this opportunity.”

Home is Where You Hang Your Hat!
Funded Mar 10, 2019You have no idea what a tremendous impact your donation has made on my classroom! My students now have a place to leave their bags, their jackets, and other personal belongings in an isolated corner of the classroom. It is organized and away from the academic learning areas, whereas in the past they had to keep their bags and jackets at their seats. Our classroom is so overcrowded, as 2 small rooms were conjoined to make one medium-sized room, though it is still not large enough for 30 children. Because of your donation, my students can now work in an environment with less clutter and more space. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
