Like most early childhood learners, the highlight of my students' day is center time. When students work in small groups in centers, they are able to focus on targeted skills, engage in self-directed learning tasks, and transition to more challenging skills over time. Centers play a crucial role in securing academic gains in classrooms with learners who are at various levels because they can be customized to address specific skills.
Some of the topics my students are excited about practicing in centers are: phonics (encoding & decoding), fluency, rhyming, addition, subtraction, and comparing numbers.
