Student Art Show
Funded Mar 16, 2015As a result of your generous donations, our Student Art Show was a huge success. We transformed six classrooms into galleries of student art work. The frames along with the students' titles for their work completes the art-making process. Artists studied by the students included Pablo Picasso, Jim Dine, Georgia O'Keeffe, Henri Matisse and Edward Hopper. In addition, students explored various genres including still life.
To see the delight in students' eyes and the appreciation of their families when they see the framed work displayed, is its own reward. This year, our Art Show was covered by all the local papers and attended by a representative of the New York City Department of Education's Office of Arts and Special Projects.
Presently, my students are engaged in observing, discussing and sketching masterwork. When their own masterpieces are complete, they will be framed and prepared for 2016 Art Show.”

Spring Art Exhibition
Funded Sep 11, 2012Thank you very much for supporting Spring Art Exhibition. The art show is the culminating event of the students' art classes. This year the show will be held at a local furniture store with a beautiful gallery space. Framing student work helps to elevate the works and inspire students.
As you know, budget cuts have drastically affected school art programs. Purchasing supplies for over 300 students can be quite costly. With your help, all student work will be framed for the final Spring exhibition.
Thank you again for your support of the visual arts program.”

This classroom project was brought to life by an anonymous donor and 18 other donors.Autumnal Still Life
Funded Nov 15, 2012Thank you very much for donating to this project. The watercolors, brushes and frames were put to good use. Students in the third, fourth and fifth grades engaged in a study of still life. They explored the genre by examining the work of artists such as Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. The students were asked to choose from three different still lifes set up in the classroom. First, they observed and sketched the objects. Then, they did a watercolor of the still life. When the watercolor was complete, they framed their work and named it. Finally, they participated in a class critique of the paintings.
These projects will be exhibited in the Spring Art Show. It is both exciting and inspiring for the students to see their work framed, titled and displayed in a gallery setting.
Thank you for helping to make this possible.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Summa
