What better way to make a difference and give back to the community than to knit beanies for cancer patients? This is the second year I am running a knitting program. Last year, only 4th and 6th graders had the same lunch period, so only those students were able to participate. We spent our lunch period everyday learning and knitting beanies. We ultimately knitted about 30 beanies and were able to donate them to Stanford Hospital. This year, I have decided to promote it as an after school program so that ALL 4th-6th grade students who are interested can join. I already have the necessary materials (soft baby yarns and loom sets) to get started, but still need other materials to get the program running smoothly. For example, the wagon will allow me to store and organize the 37 balls of yarn; the tote will provide storage for the accessories such as the needles, buttons, pom pom makers, thread; the yarns will be used to make the pom poms; the basket and cellophane paper will be used to gift the baskets when we deliver them to the hospital. We are hoping to expand our skills and double last year's quantity. I currently have 13 students signed up. My ultimate goal is to complete the beanies by Christmas, deliver them, and be able to meet the patients we are helping. I would like the students to see the impact they are making. With your help, we can make this happen. Thank you for your generosity.
