I teach in a Title 1 school (has a significant number qualify for free or reduced lunch. I am the fourth grade Dual Language Immersion teacher at my school. Since I teach in an immersion program my students have different needs. My class is comprised of "haves and have nots." I have students that live in poverty, first generation in the country mixed with very affluent, ranch owners. They represent various ethnicities, from Caucasian, Latino, Asian to African-American. They learn from from one another in so many ways; language being the main focus. These students learn culture and how to see past ones outer differences They realize that they should take advantages of those differences to grow. They have been together since Kindergarten and become a family. Our program is a strand within a school and our students usually have the least amount of disciplinary issues in the school. They learn that respect comes in many forms and it shows in their behavior.
