  • Improve Mental Health Through Peer Connection!

    Funded Dec 28, 2024

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to this project. The hoodies go directly to my 11th grade Peer Leader students in our Peer Group Connection program. They were incredibly excited to receive their custom hoodies! My students wear their hoodies several times a week as they show their pride in being a Peer Leader in our school.

The hoodies help us celebrate the hard work of our 11th grade Peer Leader students, and they also provide a sense of pride and unity for our Peer Group Connection program. Our freshman and sophomore students see the hard work and celebration of our 11th grade students and look forward to the opportunity to become "Peer Leaders" themselves. Thank you for helping us continue this experience for our students! With your support, we are able to maintain a positive program in our school community.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fernandez

  • Nourishment for Mental Health!

    Funded Sep 15, 2024

Thank you SO MUCH for making this project a reality. I am overjoyed at how quickly this project got funded. Healthy snacks for students have already arrived at our school. Our students are able to obtain food to support their mental wellbeing during the school day.

Students now know that there is a safe space to go to when they need nourishment. The project is already having a positive impact on our school community. Your immediate and generous donation means that this project could make an immediate impact and start our students off on the right foot at the beginning of the school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fernandez

  • Help Celebrate Student Leaders!

    Funded May 17, 2024

My students were THRILLED to receive their custom Peer Leader hoodies. The hoodies serve as recognition of their hard work and leadership over the course of the year. My students are now beginning their senior year of high school, and they proudly wear their hoodies in the school environment. This also enables our younger students to recognize that my students can be counted on to lend a helping hand and support them in their high school journey. Thank you for helping us build peer connection and a supportive school environment.”

  • Making Learning Count

    Funded Sep 5, 2012

I hope you enjoy seeing the pictures of my students in action, learning with the help of the document camera obtained through your generous donation. We use the document camera every single day. Not only does it save me time prepping for lessons, but it enables my students to see a live model of the mathematical processes they are learning how to do themselves.

Given that all my students need additional learning support, being able to see a clear model and demonstration of new material is extremely important. With the document camera, my students don't get distracted by PowerPoint graphics or get bored waiting for me to erase the board between problems. We are able to keep up the pace of the lesson, without erasing previous work that some students may still need to see.

The best part of the document camera is the excitement my students exhibit when they get the chance to show their work under it. While they find it fun to show their work under the camera, it has helped build their confidence as they share with their peers. Plus - it means they are thinking through the skills on their own.

Thank you again for your kind donation. I am so appreciative that you helped make this development possible for my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fernandez

  • Projector Needed: Ensure Engagement with Visual Media

    Funded Mar 17, 2012

This letter is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. Your donation made it possible for my classroom to have a projector. This one piece of technology saves me countless hours in writing and prepping lessons for two different science classes and two different math classes! With limited board space and a diverse group of learners, the projector has been an invaluable aspect of my classroom.

The projector allows my students to view videos and images related to content, including short clips on "how to" for math skills or videos showing how math skills are relevant outside of school. In my Biology class, students particularly enjoyed watching YouTube raps on mitosis and meiosis created by other high school students! A projector not only supports visual leaners, but also helps make learning more fun and engaging for everyone.

While the projector has enabled learning to "come alive" for many students, it serves an even more important function of making learning accessible for all students. Simply having an exact copy of student work and assignments displayed is essential to keeping students focused and on-track in regard to notes and instructions. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fernandez

My students attend an urban, low-income high school in Philadelphia. They all receive special education services and are grouped together in learning support classes. Given budget cuts and limited resources, my class sizes are as large as 21 students. My students want to feel successful in high school and take the same classes as their peers. Understanding content becomes challenging given that the typical student is on a 3rd grade reading level.
