The Library can be a Makerspace. This is an area where kids can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore, and discover using a variety of tools and materials. People gather at the library to share ideas and enrich their lives. Libraries are becoming creation spaces, often called maker spaces in schools across the country. I want my students to think outside the box and connect community by exploring science, technology, math, reading, writing or anything else within the school library.
Where once we were a "holding space" for books, we now can be so much more. Students can read about something and then put it into practice, all in the same place! The budget set forth for this project is to design a LEGO Wall within the Library space. We will use approximately 35 boards affixed to one of the walls. Students will also have access to two LEGO design books and many different LEGO pieces from the materials purchased through the project.
