  • Piquing Our Panthers' Interest With Popular Books!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Your impact is felt by my students in that they have choice in what engaging books to read while learning about other people's lives. This reading builds their empathy skills by exposing them to other ways of thinking, different family structures, and more. Their joy in reading has increased with these books. You can't imagine how many times I heard a student squeal when they saw the variety of books I had to process--the Dragon Ball set was quite popular.

In our library, we have books that represent our diverse student population and ones that pique their interests. Students can't wait to read the new graphic novels and manga we received as it brings their outside interests into school. Plus, the new mystery, romance, and horror books are hard to keep on the shelves--a GREAT problem to have.

Our new books are bringing our avid readers into the library, but also the students who have only checked out one book all year. Building that love of reading through books they WANT to read is key and what I try to do every day. Thank you for helping me develop their passion for reading; I truly appreciate it.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bailey

  • Manga + Graphic Novels = Engaged Readers!

    Funded May 26, 2022

Thank you for updating our graphic novel and manga sections--two of the most popular spots in our library. Your donations have allowed us to also update our lessons with these books in various genres (fantasy, action, sci-fi, etc.), which increased our students' engagement with the book tasting lessons.

Thanks to your generosity, our students have read books that reflect their worlds, books that show how others live and build our students' empathy, and books that allow them to step into fantastical locations. When students enjoy what they're reading, they build vocabulary while increasing their reading fluency.

A lot of students have been interacting with us to discuss the new graphic novels and manga as well as checking them out for their reading pleasure. Our focus is to have them want to read more and these selections help in that endeavor, in addition to making them happy.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bailey

  • Putting the LIT in Literacy

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

On behalf of our Panthers, I would like to thank you for supporting our literacy and STEAM efforts. Giving students voice and choice in what they read is key to developing lifelong readers and you have helped us on the path to doing just that. Having books that represent our students is essential in validating their lives, their ideas, and their emotions yet having books that open their eyes to the beauty of other cultures, religions, etc. is key to building empathetic citizens. Your donations meet both of those goals and our students will benefit from these books and activities.

Our avid readers will be able to choose current and popular books to read to fuel their passion along with our not-yet-hooked-on-reading kids. Your donations will be allow us to expand our offerings in the library and engage students on various levels. Makerspace activities allow our students to think critically and creatively. By having them in the library, a place that is open to all students, our Panthers have one more spot at school that accepts them just as they are.

Our goal is to build a school-wide culture of reading through promotions, programs, and more. Your donations will permit us to reach our students where they are and enrich their lives in small ways every day. Thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bailey

  • Full STEAM Ahead for Family Engagement!

    Funded Sep 13, 2020

With students learning at home, they do not have access to the library's maker-space which engages their creativity and critical-thinking skills. Your donations allowed us to augment our curbside literacy promotion by giving students mini-STEAM activities that the whole family can enjoy.

With our mini-kits, families are strengthening their bond during this stressful period by creating art or designing structures, benefiting students emotionally as well as academically. Recently one of our students picked up a book in her favorite "Blueford" series along with Play-doh; she was excited to read and create with her new STEAM activity!

Our students love to create, but as a Title I school, they often lack these materials at home; these mini-kits have enhanced their learning and family time which is a giant win! Students are working on increasing their reading fluency by listening to book talks about the new books we offer and making their book requests. Many were excited to realize that not only do they get to read, they get a fun, engaging activity that is theirs to keep! Thank you for bring that joy to our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bailey
