  • Mathematicians Need Ink!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation. My classes have really enjoyed all of the new digital activities I was able to purchase with the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card. They have enjoyed escape rooms, mystery pixel activities, scavenger hunts, and so much more. The activities are fun as well as challenging and I am able to differentiate the activities I use to meet the needs of all of my students.

Thanks to your donation I am also able to use the ink to print manipulatives for my students. We are currently learning about surface area and I was able to print a set of nets for each of my students. They were able to use the nets to find the surface area of different shapes. This hands on activity was especially helpful for my ENL and special education students.

Thank you again for your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holbrook

  • Tech Savvy Mathematicians

    Funded Mar 14, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card has helped provide my students with engaging math activities that I wouldn't be able to create on my own. They have completed many fun activities, but their favorites were the algebra scavenger hunt and geometry escape room. These activities encourage the students to work together and discuss the problems. This helps the students improve both their written and oral math skills. It also gives them an opportunity to connect with their classmates.

These activities are an asset to the classroom because they replace skill and drill with math practice that the students enjoy. It also promotes higher level thinking by having the students discuss and analyze a variety of math problems. Students often look forward to math and get excited to see what new activity they will be working on in class.

Many of my students will special needs like the pixel art activities because they are self-correcting. Students get immediate feedback and the teacher can quickly see who needs additional help. These are just a few of the ways your donation has made a difference.”

    Mrs. Holbrook

  • Virtual Mathematicians

    Funded Feb 9, 2021

Thank you for your generous donation. My students have really enjoyed all of the new activities they have been able to use during math class. In our most recent unit, the students have completed escape rooms by solving problems to get the codes needed to unlock the rooms. They solved equations to choose the appropriate path to get through digital mazes. They also solved one-step equations to complete a scavenger hunt to find out who stole the missing school supplies. The students loved working with the interactive digital activities since group work is not possible at this time. It was a welcome change from doing multiple problems in their notebook. They were able to work with a partner from a distance, and this made the assignments even more engaging for them. The partners compared their answers and when they didn't have the same answer they discussed the strategies they used to determine who had the correct answer. These resources have really helped motivate the students that were previously reluctant to participate in class.”

  • Mathematicians Need Ink!

    Funded Dec 31, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation. My students are really enjoying all of the fun activities I am able to plan for them because of your generosity. Recently the students have solved math problems to complete an escape room activity and they also found out "who stole the math supplies?" by completing a solving equations scavenger hunt.

Students learn better when lessons are engaging and let them discuss their thought process. Having ink in our classroom gives me the opportunity to create lessons where the students are thinking, discussing, and writing about math. As a teacher, it is exciting to see the students enjoying the lesson and eager to see what activity they will be completing next.”

  • Creating a Classroom of Readers, One Book at a Time!

    Funded Mar 20, 2019

Thank you so much for the class set of Among the Imposters. My students are really enjoying the books! For this unit we will be focusing on craft and structure. The students will be analyzing how the author conveys ideas and why they chose certain words or phrases. They will also be analyzing characters and plot elements as well as making inferences as they read. The students will also be working with new vocabulary words for each chapter. This is important because by building a larger vocabulary, they will improve their reading comprehension.

The imaging cartridge has also made a huge difference in our classroom. I am able to create and print different graphic organizers for the students. The graphic organizers help the students break down big ideas and help them successfully complete the daily reading focus. Thank you again for your generous donation! It has really helped motivate my students.”

  • Future Artists and Writers Need Ink!

    Funded Apr 18, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation! My students and I are very excited to have ink for our classroom. My students last year really enjoyed creating their self-portraits and I look forward to doing the project again this year. Thanks to your donation my classes last year and my classes this year will be motivated to write through the use of art. I can also create leveled graphic organizers and print student work which will help all of my students be more successful.

These are just some of the ways your donation has made a difference in my classroom.”

  • Future Readers and Writers Need Ink!

    Funded Nov 21, 2017

Thank you for your generous donation! My students and I are very excited to have ink for our classroom. I can now print each of my students a copy of the writing rubric so they know what is expected of them for each assignment. Having the rubric with them when they complete assignments will help my students meet the requirements of each task. I have also been able to create leveled graphic organizers and print student work.

The Plickers cards will make answering multiple choice questions more engaging. Students love to get the right answer and I create class competitions as a way to motivate my students to try their best.

These are just some of the ways your donation has made a difference in my classroom.

  • Motivating Reluctant Readers with Literature Circles

    Funded Jun 6, 2017

Thank you for your generous donation! My students are currently reading Stargirl for literature circles and loving it. Each week the students take on a new role to complete based on the pages they read that week. There are eight different roles that encourage students to practice important skills like using context clues, creating open-ended questions, analyzing text, and creating illustrations.

My students are enjoying Stargirl because the story takes place in a school and is about a girl who is different from everyone else. She doesn't try to change who she is for others, and brings out the best in the people around her. My students are new to middle school and this book can teach them many valuable lessons. Your donation has made a huge impact in their ability to participate in class. They are enjoying reading and hopefully this will begin a life long love of reading!”

  • Using Tablets to Engage Students with Special Needs

    Funded Jun 7, 2017

Thank you again for your generous donation! My students love using the tablet in class. They are eager to finish their work and get a chance to practice what they have learned on the Kindle Fire.

At the end of each lesson, I select two students to summarize what they have learned that day on the tablet. I alternate between students who have difficulty summarizing their work and students who finish early. This has become a resource for students that were absent or have difficulty taking class notes. They can go on the tablet and email themselves the notes for that day. The Kindle tablet has become an invaluable resource in my classroom!”

  • Motivating Readers With Engaging Book Discussions

    Funded Jun 17, 2017

Thank you for your generous donation! My students are currently reading Firegirl for literature circles and loving it. Each week the students take on a new role to complete based on the pages they read that week. There are eight different roles that encourage students to practice important skills like using context clues, creating open-ended questions, analyzing text, and creating illustrations.

My students are enjoying Firegirl because the story takes place in a school and is about trying to fit in. They are new to middle school and they can relate to many of the situations in the book. My lower level readers are able to complete the assigned reading each week because the books are at their level and the story is engaging. Your donation has made a huge impact in their ability to participate in class. They are enjoying reading and hopefully this will begin a life long love of reading!”

I teach 6th grade math, language arts, social studies, and science in a NYC public school. Many of our students are poverty-stricken and our school is a Title 1 school. My students range from level one (below grade level) to level three (meeting grade level). In a class of 30 students it can be difficult to meet the needs of every child. My classes are hard-working and motivated. Traditional resources, such as textbooks, are outdated and not stimulating to a class that is eager to learn. Students need to be challenged so they can reach their true potential. Access to tablets would enable my students to create their own learning experiences and become proficient in a variety of software programs.
