  • Independent Students and Organized Supplies

    Funded Feb 22, 2024

As a teacher I want help foster independence in my students. I feel it is helps develop confidence and success. So much of their day is so structured and teacher and task driven and this simple act can make such a difference in students interest and investment in tasks.

As an Art teacher, I know that not every student I have will be an artist. By organizing my supplies in simple ways that students can repeat and maintain helps then create lifelong habits that will help them in any career they choose.

Thank you once again for your help and support with this project.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Halter

  • Sensory and Art

    Funded Oct 27, 2023

I am always on the lookout for fun new ways for students to explore Art. The light tables and accessories are going to be a great addition to my teaching tools.

Teaching color mixing with paint is messy. With the light table, it is mess-free and students can try out endless possibilities. As a teacher who sees students of all levels and abilities, I feel it is very important to make sure every student feels successful. The light table can capture the attention of all students. We have just begun to explore the light tables and what they can do and I am sure down the road we will find even more uses for them in the art room.

I am grateful for your help and support with this project.”

  • Developing Fine Motor Skills in Art

    Funded Oct 13, 2023

As a teacher who sees students of all levels and abilities, I feel it is very important to make sure every student feels successful. Over the years I have noticed that a lot of students were struggling with the fine motor skills needed at this age level.

I originally intended these items to be just for a small group of students who need extra support to develop their skills. But what I found is that all the students enjoyed getting to use them. I am grateful for this because now it is an activity for everyone and the students who need that extra support will not feel different than the rest of the class as they work with the fine motor development items.

Thank you once again for your help and support with this project.”

  • In the Garden With Monet

    Funded Mar 27, 2021

Teamwork is an important life skill for students to understand. In art, this often comes in the form of a collaborative project. By each artist is responsible for their part, but the artwork wouldn't be complete without the efforts of everyone.

I loved getting to share the artwork of Claude Monet with my students. His ideas were brought to like with our mural. Each grade was responsible for different parts....The Kindergarten worked on creating the pond filled with water lilies and goldfish. 1st grade added the creatures you might see in a grade, like bees and bunnies. The 2nd grade created 3D flowers using paper manipulation. While each piece of art in the mural is beautiful it is when they all come together that the mural comes to like.

Thank you so much for helping this idea of mine come to life for my students and to give them an amazing experience to remember

I am grateful for your help and support with this project.”

  • SEL in the Art Room

    Funded Mar 27, 2021

As a teacher who sees students of all levels and abilities, I feel it is very important to make sure every student feels successful. Over the years I have noticed that a lot of students were struggling with trauma and expressing their feelings. By connecting art to our emotions I hope to show students that art can be a safe place to explore and express their feelings. Art can be a great outlet for our emotions.

I was really impressed by the students' willingness to share and express their feelings. I heard their conversations with teachers and friends about the artwork they created while it was on display in the hallway. I also heard so much feedback from parents who had conversations at home with their students about their feelings artwork.

I am grateful for your help and support with this project.”

  • Literacy and Art History

    Funded Oct 12, 2020

2020 has brought many challenges into the schools this year. For my students, it means we are in their regular classroom and I carry all the materials with me on my cart. It has also limited the type of artwork we are able to make.

The addition of these books into my classroom library has made learning about Art History more fun and engaging for my students.

Art and visual imagery are a natural bridge to literacy. Books can reinforce ideas and concepts that students are learning about in art in a new and relevant way that kids can engage with on their own.

It is my hope from this experience that my students will learn that flexibility is important, change is not always bad, art can be fun anywhere, and most importantly they discover how books can become a gateway to lifelong learning.

I am grateful for your help and support with this project.”

  • Helping Artists of All Abilities

    Funded Jan 15, 2019

As a teacher who sees students of all levels and abilities, I feel it is very important to make sure every student feels successful. Over the years I have noticed that a lot of students were struggling with their ability to create a work of art from paper using just scissors. They either struggled with the fine motor skills necessary or would struggle with the worry that they would not be as successful creating a detailed image from paper as they were able to with a pencil.

The addition of the punches has leveled the playing field. Students are feeling more confident to try collage and to use their imagination to create things from the shape punches. As they grow in their confidence they then start to branch out more with scissors. The whole process of collage has become more approachable for all students.

I am grateful for your help and support with this project.”

  • Literacy in the Art Room

    Funded Dec 8, 2017

Art and visual imagery are a natural bridge to literacy. It is natural that books should be incorporated into the art classroom. Books can reinforce ideas and concepts that students are learning about in art in a new and relevant way that kids can engage with on their own.

In our Art Room we have a research area that students can go after finishing their artwork to get inspired with new ideas. This is where they will find books related to art topics we are discussing or themes we are using to generate ideas. Students enjoy sharing books with their friends and discussing what they have read. Many come back during their next art class to find the book that inspired an idea for their artwork.

With the books donated by Donors Choose my students are excited by the variety of books I now have to offer. All my students enjoy the research area where they can find inspiration to read and to create art. We have many discussions transpire during their time researching ideas."”

  • More Art Not Splinters

    Funded Nov 16, 2017

I am lucky I get to see the joy on my students faces everyday when they share and discuss their artistic creations that they have made with the new Duplo Blocks

Sculpture has always been a popular area, but with the infusion of the new building materials has made the sculpture are more popular than ever. My students artwork really reflects this through their creativity. The building guides also offer students ideas of how to build things they once felt was too difficult by offering step by step instructions to make the process easier.

The students that benefit the most are my students who are challenged with fine motor skills and their ability to grip the smaller Lego bricks.”

Words do not adequately express my gratitude for your generous donations. I am lucky I get to see the joy on my students faces everyday when they share and discuss their artistic creations that they have made with the new Legos.

Legos has always been a popular area, but with the infusion of the new Legos in bright new colors and shapes it has made the sculpture are more popular than ever. My students artwork really reflects this through their creativity. The Lego books also offer students ideas of how to build things they once felt was too difficult by offering step by step instructions to make the process easier.”
